Dog Boarding in Hampton Roads Area
Hello! We will be flying out of Norfolk at the end of this month traveling to Texas. I am looking to board my dog in the Hampton Roads area while we are gone. He has only been boarded once and that was only for the day not overnight. I'm very nervous about boarding him since he has separation anxiety.
If you have any recommendations of good boarding places that would be great.
Thanks!
Re: Dog Boarding in Hampton Roads Area
I HIGHLY recommend Dog & Cat Hospital in Norfolk on 21st st, but they book quickly so I'd call as far ahead of time as possible.
There is staff there all day M-F, from 6-1p and 4-6p Saturday and twice during the day on Sunday. They can manage medications, special foods, injections.. pretty much anything your pet requires. They have separated runs so your dog will never be in contact with others - a good idea if he has separation anxiety or is fearful. If you have any questions about them, let me know - I used to work there
You can email me at sunflower1998 at cox dot net
Hope that helps!
On a side note, if you live in the HR area, I run my own sitting business and would be happy to help you out so your pup could stay at home.
My website is sitstaycrittercare dot com
Our dog stays with a woman in Norfolk who does it out of her home. She works for the school system during the school year, but is home all summer. She has her pet first aid/CPR certification and came with glowing references.
She took our dog to a neighbor's pool party with her own dogs, took him to the park, etc. I was nervous the first time...but it's like a little vacation for him, and he loves it there! (She also lets him sleep in bed with her and he is allowed on the couch...which he isn't at home).
She charges $15 a night. I called her at least once a day to check on him and she filled me in, which was reassuring. I liked that he was in a home vs. at a kennel (which I am sure would help with sep anxiety).
Last time he stayed there, she and her husband also watched our foster puppy. I know that must have been a handful, but they did a great job!
