Mattress recs?

DH and I have begun the process of mattress shopping... and ugh, could it be any more confusing?! Confused  Anyway, I thought I'd check in with you girls to see what brands/models you've had success with, as well as stores with which you've had a good buying experience.

We are open to checking out just about anywhere - we're looking for a queen size, plush or ultra-plush.  We liked the pillowtops that we saw, but it's not a must-have.  Price is not a major concern at this point - we don't want to spend a TON, but have absolutely no issue spending money to get a good product (can you tell we value our sleep around here? Stick out tongue). Beyond that, please suggest away! :)  Thanks!

Re: Mattress recs?

  • Good luck!  Mattress shopping, like furniture shopping, is a pain.  Most of the stores name mattresses differently so it's difficult to know exactly what you are trying.  If you ask though, often they will give you more information.  We went to many stores and then went back several times to try things out.  It's amazing how different beds can feel on different days, especially because DH has a bad back.

We went with one in the Simmons Beautyrest series that is a pillow top and has a very plush top with good support underneath.

  • We have a Sealy Posturepedic with pillow top.  I really like it.  It's not too firm but yet its supportive and plush.  My only other word of advice is that if you get a pillow top get a dual one where both the top and bottom are pillow top so it can be flipped.  Mine is just the top so you can only turn the mattress.
  • DH and I just got a new mattress last year.  I have a bad back too, and we went with a Simmons Beauty Rest pillow top mattress.  It is so comfortable; I haven't had any back pain since we got it.  We got a king since DH is 6'3".  Check out Bon Ton's furniture store next to Park City.  We got a pretty good deal.
  • Ugh I hate mattress shopping! Everything feels good just trying it out in the store! I actually wish we would have bought the mattress I tried out before this mattress, because this one is TOO FIRM (and DH likes firm mattresses). Oh well. Anyway, I had good success with Boscov's at Galleria.

  • Our new mattress is being delivered this evening!  Yay!

It's a Simmons Beautyrest Firm Pillowtop.  I love Simmons mattresses, I think they do a great job at stopping the transfer of motion when one person moves and they are so comfy and hold up well.  It's the midrange model - "World Class,"  and we're paying a little over $1K for it (queen).  We got it at Mattress Warehouse.

We researched the price for comparable modes on line and then bargained on the price.  Apparently each store has their own model name for each type, but you should be abel to find that online as well.

    Good luck!

  • We went through this a few months ago - what a process!

We also have a Simmons Beautyrest pillowtop - it is very plush and has Latex in it to help control temperature. For some reason, we found that the beds that incorporated latex in them felt much better to us. They do have some all-latex beds out there that felt amazing!

As for the pillowtop, from what I remember, they aren't making them dual-sided anymore and changed the structure so that they only need to be turned and not flipped.

    GL!
