Moving to Mt Pleasant/Charleston..
We are so excited to be moving from TX to SC!! Any recommendations on what we should do first? Where we should eat? Any other info?? Hopefully there are lots of ladies here from that area!
Re: Moving to Mt Pleasant/Charleston..
Shem Creek is lovely. Definately check that out. My favorite restaurant on Shem Creek is Waters Edge. Vickery's is also pretty good, and a little more laid back. If you want a nice spot for happy hour, try Red's on Shem Creek.
We really like to go to the beach on the weekends. That is a huge perk of living in the area. Take some time to drive out to Sullivan's Island....eat at Poe's and go to the beach.
What else do you want to know? The OP was a little hard to address because it is so general!
We are moving from CT to SC in about a month! When are you moving? Did you already buy a house? We're looking to buy in Mount Pleasant as soon as our house in Connecticut sells.
It's so exciting!!!
We haven't bought a house yet. We are going to stay at an apartment for about a year while we get a feel for the area and then we are going to look at buying.
We're moving from the DFW area.
Sorry my questions were vaque! I'm just so excited, what I was trying to ask is what is your favorite thing to do? What should we just not miss?
A list of favorites:
-biking downtown, especially at Battery and Waterfront Park
-watching dolphins at WAterfront Park and Shem Creek
-rowing a boat at Cypress Gardens
-boat tour to Ft Sumter
-shopping at cute boutiques on Upper King St
-mussels pistou at Rue de Jean
-Santi's!! awesome mexican (and this is coming from a Houston girl)
-Taco Boy after a day surfing at Folly Beach
-laid back day at Sullivan's Island
-lunch at S.N.O.B.
-Modica, Yo Burrito, Jim /N Nick's, Basil's, Five Loaves, G&M (Fast & French) for a workweek lunch
-breakfast at Joseph's on Meeting St or Charleston's Cafe at Anna Knapp Plaza in Mt. Pleasant
-walking the Cooper River bridge on a nice day
-exploring cobblestone alleys south of Broad St and exploring old graveyards
-pizza at D'Allesandro's (corner of St Philip and Bogard) or Andolini's
-walking around downtown - shopping, restaurants, scenery
-Redux Contemporary Art Center
-Avondale
there's a lot to love! Good move on renting first to get a feel for neighborhoods ... Mt Pleasant would be second to last on my list of places to live behind North Charleston (personal preference only!!!) - we love being on the peninsula, which I HIGHLY recommend if you're going to rent, and like the West Ashley and Riverland Terrace neighborhoods
if you live on the peninsula, you get a lifestyle that is just unimaginable in DFW - biking or walking to work possibly, definitely to all the great restaurants, shopping, and attractions, fabulous urban living at a nice slow pace
Oh!! I forgot one of the absolute best!
Angel Oak on Johns Island (waaaaay down Maybank Hwy)
and then also farmer's market at Marion Square on Saturdays - yummy crepes and an awesome local ranch selling grass fed beef are my two main stops
