I'm trying to decide where I want to go for my birthday in a few weeks (with DH). I've looked around online a bit for reviews and recommendations and narrowed it down to three restaurants: Kingfisher Bar & Grill, Gold Room (at the Westward Look), and Cafe Poca Cosa. I'm looking for an all-around nice meal. Not necessarily romantic and not necessarily fancy, just good food, good service, and not ridiculously priced.
I realize these three are very different but all are restaurants I'd like to try at some point. Any opinions on which to choose?
Re: Restaurant help
Wow, those are all good choices. I've never been to the Gold Room but I hear it is fabulous!
Poca Cosa is one of my favorite places. I enjoyed it more, however, when it was a little hole in the wall at the Santa Rita hotel. The food is still amazing! I recommend the Plata de Poca Cosa to sample three items on their menu. They pick which three you get. Also, get what ever the special drink of the day is, esp. if its horchata or watermelon lemon aid. Their menu changes twice a day.
Kingfisher is also fantastic. I LOVE their ahi tuna. I love the look and feel of the restaurant too.
Oh - I just remembered. My friend told me that while The Gold room is beyond awesome, is also very pricey.
Cafe Poca Cosa and Kingfisher are more moderately priced.
I completely agree with Kimmie (I also haven't been to The Gold Room but highly recommend the other two choices).
If you are a seafood fan I would definitely recommend Kingfisher.
Keep in mind that Poca Cosa isn't really a normal Mexican restaurant by Tucson standards (in my opinion). It's really more about flavors and presentation than your standard rice and beans and burrito type place, but definitely cool atmosphere and good food. And great salsa!
Hope you have a great birthday!
I live near Kingfisher and I've never heard a bad thing about it, only ever good. Same with Gold Room. My mom and her fi love it there and go often.
I didn't like Cafe Poca Cosa. We went for the birthday lunch at the school I used to work at and the food was rather nil. Small portions and it seemed like they were trying for exotic and ended up just weird.
Where ever you go, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
Thanks for all the help! I'm going to go with Kingfisher, it sounds like a sure bet.
