My DH and I just moved to the Chicago area, and I am looking for some recommendations for doctors- general practitioner, dentist, and chiropractor. We don't have to worry about them being in network for our insurance. Also a vet and in a completely different direction- a nice brewery. Any help would be appreciated as I hate moving to a new place and having to learn everything all over again. I will also look at old posts to see what other recommendations there have been in the past. I would prefer them to be in downtown or South Loop, but if they are really good then I am willing go to the west or north neighborhoods. I really appreciate it. Thanks
Re: New To Chicago
All of my docs are affiliated with Northwestern and I love them all.
PCP is Cynthia Lagone at Northwestern Memorial Faculty Foundation. ?She's very thorough, great bedside manner, and very patient-focused.
OB/Gyn is Kara Deaver with Chicago Women's Health (an NW affiliate) located on Chicago Ave. ?Same as above, and was the first doc who was really willing to work with me on some BC issues - a huge plus. ?
I take my cat to Dr. C (realllllly long name but they'll know who you're talking about) at Urban Vet Clinic in Lakeview. ?She and the vet tech were so so wonderful to my cat and just fawned over him, which any proud pet mama wants. ?He's a good patient but I think they'd be fantastic with an animal who was more on the nervous side too. ??
I live on the north side and love the IL Advocate Masonic hospital. They have doctors offices attached and that is where all of my doctors are located. I love them all! Very clean and professional.
As for the brewery, I love Goose Island in Wrigleyville. Again, up north.
Welcome to Chicago!

I can answer a couple of these for you:
Dentist: I've been seeing Dr. Gilleran for years. Love her! She's not in my dental plan anymore but I still go to her and pay the extra out of pocket. DH refuses to go to out of network so he goes to Smiles By Design. So far he's had no complaints.
Vet: Family Pet Animal Hospital. They are truly the best I've experienced in the city, and I've tried almost all the places. I live in the South Loop but commute to this vet for my 2 cats. We see Dr. Amy Ujiki.
Brewery - I don't know, lots of people love Grace O'Malley's in the South Loop but we never cared much for it. We do like Krolls at 18th and Michigan because it's big, comfortable, clean, large screen tvs.
Sorry, I am not a huge poster but I am hoping to post more now that things are settling down.
GP: Dr Bryan at Rush she is a DO and has been great about taking my calls. In generall any doctor related items I am trying to keep at Rush.
Dentist: Dr. Kushner he is located in 205 N. Michigan. I went to him for a second opinion on after one dentist told me I had a couple of cavities and I needed to have a vaneer (and then immediately left the room). He was great about the items, I didn't need 1/2 of the recommendations and we have a care plan.
Vet: Compassionate Vet, he won us over when we had been living here for 1 week and our dog ate rat poisioning. While he was out of town and the e-vet was closed he recommended us to Family Pet in Lincoln park. We have had other emergencies (I have 2 labs) and he takes our calls at 2am and helps us make decisions while we are at the e-vet and follows up with them.
Brewery: Goose Island. It's not that original but DH and I loved their $5 brewery tour with the beer sampling. We got to speak with the brewmaster, have 5 or 6 different beers and took home pints.
Most of these are close northside (Lincoln Park or Downtown)
I second whoever mentioned Northwestern Docs. All my doctors are in the North Shore Medical Group (formerly ENH) and are fantastic...Dr. Lay is our GP.
We have a great vet, they are in Evanston, but worth the drive. It's called McCormick Animal Hospital...they are a little quirky but extremely kind and reasonable price wise.
Also, if you like beer you are in the right city! Can't really go wrong, I would reccomend Piece in Bucktown...great pizza too.
