Cook vs Lake County Property Tax Rates?

I'm trying to find the property tax rates for residential in Lake and Cook County.

I'm confused -- looks like Cook Cty increased their residential property tax 10%? Is that correct? (Called the 10/25 plan?)

Any info on the tax rate for each county is appreciated!

  • I can't speak for Lake County, but my property taxes in Cook County did increase by about 10%.

Kat, when did your taxes go up? We haven't seen it yet on our condo taxes & I'm getting worried it'll blind side us!
  • I live in Lake County and our taxes did not increase this year (or if they did, it was minimal).  But Lake County house taxes are also significantly higher than Cook.  We're looking at houses and expect to pay about 2x as much in taxes for a house in Lake than in Cook.

  • Last year. I live in the NW burbs, and our reassessments were in the fall sometime. Wait - that can't be right. Had to be earlier in 08.

  • My parents live in Cook and we live in Lake. They have a much larger house and pay about $1,000 less than we do in property taxes.
  • However, isn't this supposed to be temporary because of the growth in Lake County and how it (and other similar counties) didn't have the schools and other resources yet? So it needed to increase taxes to build up these community things... A friend lives in Huntley and her prop taxes are OUTRAGEOUS compared to mine.
