Hi Ladies, I'm a Cincinnati Nestie and my husband and I will be in LA in a few weeks for vacation and a few days for work. This will be his first trip so we plan to do some of the touristy things like take a bus tour, Rodeo Drive, Getty Museum, drive up the PCH to Malibu, Santa Monica Pier, Dodger game, etc.
What I need help with is finding the "out of the way" spots. In other words, what places do you love that we might not see in a travel magazine? We love unique shops, he LOVES sweets (candy, cupcakes, cookies). We don't care much for Asian or fusion cuisine and he's not into Indian food. We love Mexican and Italian. We LOVE mojitos. We don't mind walking but we're not the outdoorsy types. I wouldn't mind a bike tour.
A friend used to live in LA and he gave us a list of things:
Les Deux
Ketchup
My House - bar/club
Apple - bar/restaurant
Skybar
Dimples Karaoke
The Grove
Versailles Cuban Restaurant
Montana St in Santa Monica (Spumoni's for lunch)
3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica
Is that enough to get you thinking? I sure would appreciate some ideas of other interesting restaurants, shopping or anything else. Thanks ladies!
Katie
Re: Help a visiting Nestie
If you make it down to Long Beach, you'll want to go here for all things candy. Have a great vacation!
ETA: In Santa Monica, hit up Vanilla Bake Shop for delish cupcakes. You could also try Sprinkles in Beverly Hills.
Can you tell I have a sweet tooth as well?
A Los Angeles Historic Treasure is OLVERA STREET in downtown Los Angeles. Great for a casual lunch or dinner, drinks and a stroll thru uniques shops full of Mexican & LA souvenirs. Have fun!

Love it! Exactly what I wanted when I mentioned sweets! My husband will be so happy. (so am I) Thank you.
I was going to say this as well - I wrote a blog post about Olvera street...
I have some more ideas in my blog...
Fabulous. The pictures alone make Olvera Street a must-see. Thanks so much. Thanks to all of you, by the way. I appreciate the feedback!
