Can we talk about Mayor Bloomberg's campaign for re-election?

Anyone else scoffing at the millions of dollars that Bloomberg is spending for his campaign (37 million so far)? It's such a flagrant show of elitism and conspicuous consumption.

NY Times article from last week:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/11/nyregion/11campaign.html

Here's a nice post on his "fake" ad re public schools and his efforts to make "progress" in schools. P.S. This progress might be valid, however we will never know how much since his administration has made such efforts to change the way that meaningless standardized tests are used to evaluate performance.

Mayor Bloomberg Gets 'F' for Phony Public School Ad

Ironically, he might have locked in my vote if he had just donated that campaign money to the public cause in NYC.  His self-serving attitude and his lack of empathy for the working class just about have me voting for whomever is running against him.

Re: Can we talk about Mayor Bloomberg's campaign for re-election?

  • I'm not really sure he can be faulted for not donating money, see this article:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/27/nyregion/27bloomberg.html

He donates millions to the Carnegie foundation, which specifically supports NYC charities,  as well as the Robin Hood Foundation which targets poverty in NYC.
Additionally, when the city budget has required cuts to funding for fine arts and museums in NYC, he has donated his personal funds to help bridge the gap.

  • Hey golden poster!! Big Smile Way to go...

I like Bloomberg and think he is a good mayor. Granted he doesn't win the prize for congeniality, if I was voting I would vote for him (although it's too early to say).

He does so much good with his money, that if he feels he wants to spend $$ making ads, I can't knock him on that. What gets me a little worked up is why is he campaigning so hard, so soon?!?!? I just don't get it! But the folks in the advertising sector must be soooo happy!

    That's my 2 cents.
