CNA followup

DH saw a commercial for Midwest Technical Institute (Springfield campus) on tv the other day. They offer a CNA course as well, so I called to check into it. Their August class still has openings. Great! I asked how much it cost before committing to coming in for the pre-test.  $1,250!  Seriously?? I told her I had to talk to DH about it.  I'm already registered for the Decatur Technical Academy pre-test for the CNA course starting in October.  The cost of that class is only $115.  1/10th the cost.  I told DH about it.  I think he's seriously considering telling me to take the class in Springfield because it starts in August.  I think he may be crazy.  It must be hot at work today and it's getting to his head.

Re: CNA followup

  • For the tuition difference ($1,135)... think about the income difference for 2 months of extra CNA work you can do (so... let's say 8 extra weeks of CNA employment)... Can you make $141 more per week as a CNA to offset the increase in tuition? (That's an extra $3.55 per hour, rounded up to the nearest penny.).  This does not include the extra in gas money to/from school either.

I think waiting a few more weeks is worth the savings. Unless Midwest Technical Academy has a scholarship waiting for you... but I doubt it. They do alot of tv advertising up here, but for the East Peoria campus.

  • I finally got DH to stop considering MTI as a serious option.  I'd have to drive 45 minutes there and 45 minutes back five days a week, which would cut down not only on my study time, but the time I'd be able to continue working at Lowe's.  I have student loans to pay, so every minute counts!

That said, I cannot wait to be done working at Lowe's.

  • Of course, if it were only a difference of a couple hundred dollars in tuition price, I'd definitely drive each day just to be done with the program before the other program even starts.
