Hi There --
DH and I are Miami natives from Cuban-American parents. Both sets of parents speak English & Spanish fluently, however our grandparents (baby's great-grandparents) do not. We are having a hard time picking a name that is easily said in both English & Spanish. (We aren't very much into Hispanic names).
So, the question is...Should I care if the baby's great-grandparents can't really pronounce the baby's name? We are really torn on this issue.
Thanks,
Cyn

Totally relate to this. When my MIL (in-laws are Asian) first heard my name "Virginia", she thought it was hard to pronounce, lol. I know that the name we picked out, Benjamin, will be challenging, but they can call him "Ben" for short if they'd like. We are taking FIL's name, Chin-Ti, and using it for the baby's middle name. Everyone's happy.
And I totally agree with the pp's and specifically with Chrissy's comment about giving the baby a Hispanic nickname.
I am Cuban-American too and many of my cousins have chosen very very American names for their children. One of my cousins named her son Jayden.
The grandparents will learn how to pronounce the name. Even if its just with a little accent it will sound fine. Its acutally kinda cute to hear our grandmother call my cousin "yay-din"
