Possible moving to the area... opinions

My husband and I really want to relocate. We are from IL and went for a visit and loved it. My parents are retiring to the area (they bought a house a few years ago). My uncle also lives down there. So we would have no problem staying with them until we find a house/ build a house.

We are both currently looking for jobs there. He is in journalism and I'm a certificated teacher. We haven't had any job offers, yet. He's planning to stay in IL, move back in with his parents, save money, and work until he gets a job down there. Should I move down there in August (without the husband) and try and get my foot in the door at some schools while I get my Texas certification (no guarantee of a job) or stay put until I can get a job? In IL the schools are pretty hard to get into is it the same in Texas??

My big dilemma is do I take the leap?

?Sorry so long.. I need an outsiders opinion. Thanks?

Re: Possible moving to the area... opinions

  • The schools are pretty difficult to get into in SA too, unfortunately.  I've been trying for over 2 years.  They are pretty political.  If ya'll are set on moving here, I would get into subbing.  Best of luck!!

  • Thank you for the advice.?
  • Hi. I've rarely been on here and post seldom as well. Anyway, that's interesting that your husband is in journalism and you're a teacher. It's vice-versa for my husband and I.?

?Anyway, not sure when these "job fairs" are exactly, but choose a few districts you're looking into and see about attending a job fair during the scheduled time. It's really a big gathering of area teachers, a lot of transfers, meeting with schools for a position.?

If I may, what kind of teacher are you?Did you go to school and get a teaching degree? Or did you get a degree in something else and are?certified? How long have you been teaching??

He didn't hear back for three weeks. Toward the end of the summer you might hear something since many might not return.?

Talking to the DH, he says that his district, NISD, that they had the lowest number of retirees because of the economy. But there are openings. Just be aggressive and get your resume out there. NEISD is the highest paid and then NISD. So a lot of teachers from other districts are trying to transfer to those so it may be a tough.?

Sorry if that's confusing. Be aggressive. ?
