Cake recs in Madison

So I'm thinking about getting a little cake for our 1 year anniversary. Anyone have any recs for cake places in Madison? I want them to recreate our wedding cake. I'm going to La Brioche right now, but any other recs? TIA!

Re: Cake recs in Madison

  • My cake was from La Brioche and I LOVED it! image

We've also used Craig's Cakes but for simpler cakes like for showers and her Baptism this weekend.

  • What a beautiful cake Whitney! Looks so yummy!

Ok, so I just got back from my very ridiculously quick meeting at La Brioche. See I have a problem. My original wedding cake was included with my venue package, so I don't actually know how much these cakes are supposed to cost. I thought I could get a small 6" cake for around $30. I showed him my cake and to get the exact cake (meaning with fondant) I was quoted $56. To get my cake with buttercream instead, it's $41. Oh my gosh! $56 for my top tier! I was shocked. Is this how much this thing is going to cost me?!? Is that normal?

  • Wow, seems kind of pricey.  What is that per serving?  I know it's just the two of you but that's how cakes are priced around here.

We used Carl's for our wedding cake and got a free first year anniversary cake.  Both times they were delicious!  Do you like the taste of fondant?  Carl is famous for his buttercream and he was able to make it just as smooth as fondant:

  • It came out to $3.73/pp not including tax. I think I'm going to stick with fondant just to make it more like our original cake. This is what my original cake looked like:

  • Damn you all and your cake pictures!  Now I want cake!

I think La Brioche is going to be your best bet. Craig's doesn't use fondant but Creative Confections does. I haven't used her but I've tasted her fondant and it's really good. I saw the recommendation on the knot for Rolling Pin and they run $4/serving. Regardless of where you go, if you went with buttercream, you'd probably save around a $1/serving.

What a pretty cake!  I second Creative Confections if you want fondant.  I talked to them for our wedding and liked them but fell in love with Carl's buttercream and price ($1.50/serving).  Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Are you doing anything fun for your first anniversary?  Any fun presents?

  • Thanks for the recs ladies. I'll look into everything, hopefully I'll get some tastings out of them Wink

I'm not sure what we're doing for our anniversary. I think we're probably just going to have a nice dinner. Just spending time together.
