I haven't been to many wineries, just a few in Hermann. I am looking for one relatively close that has great scenery. That's more important to me than the wine itself! Any ideas? I just want a place to spend a few hours relaxing in a comfy chair on a patio or under a big shady tree.
Re: Winery Rec, please!
Out west of St. Louis, Montelle has the best scenery (crummy wine). If you want to head to the Ste. Gen area, both Chaumette and Charleville have great scenery
Charleville is a little mom and pop place that also has a microbrewery, so if not everyone is a wine fan there's something for them as well. Unfortunately, Charleville is the farthest away.
I'd avoid Crown Valley--very corporate, won't let you bring coolers with snacks/water.
My favorite in Augusta is Montelle; I disagree with one of the pp's, I love their wine! Montelle has live music on the weekends, a great deck and pretty big variety of wines. They have a great tasting room and the tasting is free, but they don't allow you to bring in coolers with your own snacks. (I recommend filling a big purse
Balducci is the furthest one out in Augusta, and they have great pizza and salads and it's a very country setting. The only one I really wouldn't recommend is Mount Pleasant. We only went there one time and they charged $5 for tasting and then a $10 corkage fee.
I highly rec. Adam Puchta Winery just past Hermann ... great wine and view. Also Sugar Creek Winery in Augusta is a favorite of mine, also great wine and live music.
