Miami hotel recs?? Taking a cruise in Nov....

Hi!

I'm from the Tampa area  - - - DH and I will be taking a cruise in November out of the port of Miami. We're still deciding on details... whether to take a shuttle down to Miami, or rent a car the morning of, or rent a car the night before and drive down. DH seems interested in driving down the night before and staying a hotel...

Can you recommend any places to check out? Something not uber-expensive... and it doesn't need to be on the beach or anything like that since we'll probably just be getting in and going to sleep (just someplace that's relatively safe!)! Something within a short distance to the airport would be good, since we'll have a rental car and be dropping it off at/near the airport the next morning. Also, any areas to steer clear of? I don't want to be in a bad part of town, and I've never been to Miami so I have no idea! lol

TIA!

  • Hi again.  There are a lot of car rental offices around town.  No need to be limited to the airport.  Also, the port of MIA may have some rental offices too.  Just some food for thought.

Downtown and Brickell are both right by the port... very convenient.  However, the area may be on the pricier side.  Coral Gables and the Grove are nice areas and you can prob get good deals too.

Sonesta and Mayfair are both nice hotels in the Grove.

  • Thank you! I will check them out! Cool
  • everything coco said :)

however, just so you know, hotels close to the airport... not the best.  i would stay away from them!

  • The Hilton Miami Airport looks nice and is close to the airport, but then it's not really THAT close to the port.. you'd have to go on a highway for about 6 miles (at least) to get to the port. ?I would probably suggest the grove because it's easy and not that far from the port, but still in a good area. Since you don't need it to be fancy, maybe the Hampton Inn on US-1 and 27th avenue. ?
