Weekend Getaway to LA with freind....need help on location please!

So one of my girlfreinds and I are hoping to go for a Girls Weekend out to LA, before our college courses start up again.

We are looking for a place to work for our age group (22/24)...we want to go shopping, check out the sites, go to the beach..if possible or just the hotel or nearby hotel pool, go dancing and bars...all around have fun.

We are hoping to go in August sometime. I am married and while she is newly single, we are just going to go for fun..

We are both college students and as this is my trip, while my hubby is at work, I will be paying for it on my own...do you have any hotels you girls could please recommend that would be nice but budget friendly. I don't mind staying at a hotel with kids but we would like it to be safe and near the action or somewhat close if possible.

We have been to Santa Monica, and while it's fun there...it's to expensive..so anyplace in LA-that's safe...would be great!!

Thanks!!

  • LA is expensive all around! Hermosa beach is a totally different vibe, way more chill, lots of great night life on Pier Ave, fantastic beaches, shopping in lots of small boutiques (not really any major stores), great places to eat, you can walk for every long the beaches. You can spend a ton (and I do mean a TON) or have a cheap trip and still a great time. Many bars on Pier Ave don't have a cover charge, and the "club" type places have a low cover- $5-10. Causal vibe, don't need to dress up too much. Super safe, very young crowd. I would vote for HB :)?

  • Thanks jdbmjm!! That place sounds perfect!!! I will go check it out online now...thanks again
  • check out vacation home rentals http://www.vrbo.com/

depending on how long you're staying & the location, this may be a better deal

    good luck and have fun!

  • I agree w/Mia...check out VRBO...she recently turned me onto it and we had an amazing get away in Ojai (thanks, Mia!).

Another option is El Segund/Manhattan Beach.  There are several ES hotels on the East side of Sepulveda (Hilton Gardens is one that comes to mind) that have reasonable prices and you are just a few miles from the fun beachtown of MB or Hermosa.  You can also check out Belamar in MB.  It's on the edge of town. It was recently renovated but I know it's gotten mixed reviews.  That said, the price might be right.

  • Thanks everyone! I will check out the vacation rental but we will probably be there for just a night, but I will check it out..for if not now then later on.
  • If you haven't done so already, try priceline.  I'm sure you could even get something affordable in Santa Monica with it.
  • For El Segund or Manhattan Beach are they walking distance or driving distance to all of the activities?

I checked out Priceline and I love the prices they offer. My freind is at a wedding this weekend..but I am going to send all these places to her as a suggestion..

are either of these place close driving distance-taxi for the bars, cllubs, museums and restauraunts

  • If you stay in Manhattan beach you are within walking distance to the beach, pier, restaurants, but not if you stay in the Belmar. In El Segundo you will need to drive (I think there is a trolley the Ocean Express I think).  There is a beach at ES but I think for touristy things Manhattan or Hermosa beach are better bets.
