Date Night Ideas

I would like to break the routine of going out for dinner and/or a movie when my husband have our date nights.  I've been thinking about looking into local comedy clubs or other entertainment venues, but I'm not sure where to start to find a good place.  Do you know of any places to recommend?  What types of activities do you plan for a night out?

Re: Date Night Ideas

  • We're pretty boring.  We usually go to happy hour and dinner at El Callejon in Encinitas, or sometimes we'll drive to Del Mar and hit golf balls at the driving range, have happy hour and watch the sunset, and then go to dinner.

  • We're pretty boring too.  Wednesday night is "date night" for us and we usually go out to dinner and have some sort activity (movie, walk in Balboa Park/Coronado or wherever we're at, go to Belmont Park, etc.)  On the weekends, we've done comedy clubs, local casinos, etc. but since "date night" is on a "school night" we keep them pretty low-key.
  • we usually do "date days". . . as in during the day.  we don't do the night thing much anymore.  we'd rather be @ home watching a movie.  yeah, we're boring now too.  :)

    here's some things we do:

drove to julian for the apple festival & had apple dumplings @ mom's

    balboa park

    museums

watch sea world's fireworks from the bay

    WAP

    the zoo

    museums

    padre game

    . . . and i've drawn a blank.

if you two ever want to double call me.  unless you see enough of me during our hike/walks.  Stick out tongue

  • Thanks for the ideas everyone.  Keep them coming if you can think of anything else!

princesskl- We should definitely do a double date!  Justin is leaving for the field (yet again) next week and will be gone for a few weeks so when he comes back we can plan one.  I almost forgot we have to pick a hiking location this weekend as well! Smile

  • i just remembered that the races are starting in the del mar, or maybe they already did.  we'd had never been to horse races.  it was interesting.  great people watching too.  we also liked it when we won money.  :)
  • Check out National Comedy Theatre on India St. in Mission Hills. ?Tickets are only $12, and they are HILARIOUS! ?I've been so many times--every time someone from out of town comes to visit I take them. ?Shows are Friday and Saturday nights. ?Then go for a drink at Shakespeare's next door.
  • We've also been doing picnics on/near the beach recently. ?The weather is perfect for that. ?Cheaper than a restaurant, and the views are wonderful.
  • Many parks in San Diego County offer free outdoor movies during the summer (there are a few spots where you have to pay).  You and your hubby can pack a picnic and something yummy to drink then head down to the park for a fun evening out.   There are tons of websites, but just search for "summer outdoor movies san diego" on google or yahoo and tons of sites will come up.

If you go to the Comedy Store in La Jolla it is free on Sundays but there is a two drink minimum.  It is usually local comics so it can be painful to watch but there are some really funny ones as well.  DH and I went once and were there for like 3 hours!

I know this is kind of what you want to get away from but Landmark Theaters has midnight showings at their theaters (usually the Ken or the Landmark in La Jolla) I think this week is Ghostbusters.  The other weeks they had the Goonies and some other old movies.  That's a little different from your regular movie experience.  There is also Cinema Under the Stars in Mission Hills.  The movies are older and it is outdoors.  A little twist on your regular movie experience.

DH and I have also done the touristy thing and rented a Go Car.  I was able to get a great deal through Gold Star Events (website you can get discount tickets for random events).  This is a great website for ideas...they have links to fun stuff like scavenger hunts through downtown, whale watching, etc.
