So, when DH and I moved here, we were told by our leasing agent that there was no AC in our apt bc "It really never gets above 80 here". We were SWINDLED lol!!
Seriously, I feel bad turning AC on bc its bad for the environment; but this is redic. I think I'll go and buy a unit today and increase my carbon footprint blissfully.
Re: Lying Liars!
Seriously though, Oregon seems to only have one real week that is "summer" when temps get crazy hot. Then it goes back down to high 80's low 90's. I HATE the heat and we got an a/c unit in the last place we lived in the portland area. We used it a lot for about a month since FI tends to sweat at anything slightly hot.
Overall, the one horrid week from hell will seem like nothing after 25+ years in Oregon ;-)
Last year I was working at a place with no a/c or real heat that we had to open a bay door for ventilation. It was horrible and I'm happy I dont work there anymore for that reason (I'll miss the rest though). I seriously thought I was gonna die.
So many people say this, and I have to disagree! I've been here 10 years, and I finally got a portable a/c unit last year. I would have gotten one sooner, but I was in apts until we bought our house. There are enough days above 85 to justify it IMO.
i KNOWWWW...seriously so f-ing hot! at least our place has TONS of trees shading it so it really doesn't get that bad in our house. and we left the window in our bedroom open last night and actually got cold, which felt really nice...
another thing people lied about was the rain...or maybe people in MI were just misinformed...but EVERYONE i told that i was moving to OR would be like "i hope you like rain..it rains everyday..even in summer"...well no that's just not true. by the way, DH and I love rain so we'll totally be fine with it when it does come...but people kept telling us that even the summers sucked and there was no sun. okay we've been here almost three weeks now and have only had rain ONCE.

Bwahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, let's see how you feel around Halloween!! It rains every single day from the end of October-April.
Seriously though, appreciate these glorious days while we have them! And we own a window A/C that we bought 3 years ago, we only turn it on maybe 10 days total in the summer, but on those days it's SO NICE to walk into a cold house. Totally buy a window unit. Costco has great ones that will last forever for about $200-$300, and it cools off our entire 1200 sq ft house very nicely.
