Tell me about Columbus

Dh and I have never been to Ohio, but he has family in PA and Northern WV so we were thinking about moving closer to them. Columbus is a central location to both of them, but we don't know anything about this city. We prefer to live in the suburbs of Columbus. Any info (weather, schools, crime, traffic, cost of living, etc..) is greatly appreciated!

Re: Tell me about Columbus

  • Hey Mrs. Steen,

I'm kinda biased, but I think Columbus is a great place to live, especially if you're thinking about raising a family. Weather here is pretty normal -- hot in the summers, cold in the winter. Generally high humidity, etc.

I'm a reporter and I cover Westerville, which is a Columbus suburb and was recently ranked 15 on Money Magazine's list of top citys to live in. There are many great school districts here, the people are nice and there's always something going on! Columbus has a good-sized community of young, artsy people. Cost of living is much lower than you would find in other big cities.

Hope that helps! Feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

  • I too think Columbus is a great place to live.  They have a wide range of suburbs with varying costs of living.  I teach in Gahanna and think it is a great place to live.  Worthington and Grandview are also wonderful suburbs.

There are deifinitely four seasons here.  The summers are humid and warm, the winters are cold, with snow, but not tons of it.  Traffic can be bad if you have to travel into downtown during peak hours, but it really is nothing compared to other big cities.

Columbus is very big on their college football.  Having gone to OSU myself, I can definitely say it's a great place to live if you're a football fan.

     Good luck on your search
