i need to get involved in stuff but don't really even know where to start...
obviously once i find a job it will be easier..but right now i am bored.out.of.my.mind. i'm having a hard time getting motivated to do anything, but it's mostly because i don't know what to do!
any tips for my husband and i? he starts school at the end of august and i'm really hoping to have a job by then...but we need tips on what to do from now until then... any suggestions? places to go?
i met up with scarlett who is pretty much the nicest person ever yesterday and had a BLAST (thanks again, scarlett, for meeting up with me, it was so great to meet you..can't wait to get together again)
anyway...but i really want to get involved in stuff but don't know what...anyone involved in anything that they love? yoga maybe? or can anyone suggest the gym they belong to? we live in the SW area so it would need to be around there...
i expected this to happen once we moved out here..so i'm not surprised, but it's hard figuring out what to do!
Re: that's it..
I'd love to meet you at a local dog park for a play date!
Aaaw, yay! Thank you! I had a blast too and can't wait to do it again. Next time we should introduce the pups. Now that you mention it, I love to hike (amateur-no rock climbing or spelunking, lol!) but DH is definately not into that. I would love love love to find a local hiking partner who is also unemployed for the time being besides my dog. If that sounds like something you'd enjoy; we should plan a day trip to Washington Park or maybe closer to us out here...let me know, i'd love to. You will be absolutely blown away by how beautiful Oregon is in the wild. OMG you have no idea.
Hmmm...we definately need to introduce you to some local microbrews too. Thats on my radar. I think there's a craft brew frestival coming up that you and your H should check out. Also, a great book we got when we first moved here is called something like "Newcomers Guide to Portland". All kinds of local stuff to do in there. Also, the latest edition of Eat.Shop Portland just came out; and we highly recommend that. Bonus: You can swing by Powells to pick it up. If you're into books you have found your Heaven. I could spend a week there, just give me a sleeping bag and some sandwiches.
I would also check out meetup.com for various groups that maybe of interest to you. I know they have a lot of dog meetup groups to walk the pup around various parts of Portland.
Also check out handsonportland.org. It's a volunteer network with great things to help out with and meet new people in Portland.
Next weekend is the Oregon Brewers Festivial at the Waterfront Park. Always lots of fun and if you haven't yet made yourself familiar with Portland Beer, it's the best place to start. You'll never touch a bud lite/miller lite again.
Other ideas: wine tasting, hiking (washington park has lots of trails and I highly recommend a lot of the trails in the Columbia Gorge if you like waterfalls - Eagle Creek is my favorite), walking tours of Portland.
In the summer, there is usually always some type of festival going on. You can find out what's going on for any date here:

Hope this helps!
thank you sooooooo much you guys! we really appreciate all the help/tips...definitely gonna help us out a ton
kristin - i'm totally in for a doggy play date at a dog part! PM me or email me at dajelly at gmail dot com...haven't gotten our pups licensed yet, though, so we probably need to put that on our to do list.
tuesday we're going to hit the ocean i think since it's supposed to be hot and nice at the ocean (We went went my parents were in town but it was like 50 degrees) but i'm working on planning out the rest of the week...maybe we'll hit up multnomah falls and what not. i'm actually really excited about the brewers festival!
thanks again everyone we just really want to get a ton of stuff done before DH starts law school and has zero time to do anything!
scarlett -- i LOVE hiking so im totally up for hiking whenever..i'm not a crazy hiker either so i think we'd be great hiking partners
