My husband and I and another couple (late 20's) will be vacationing in Charleston Dec. 26-Jan. 2. Men will want to play golf and deep sea fish. What are some things we must do? Shopping? Places to eat? Would like some casual spots and some fancy spots, maybe even on the water. What is something to do on New Year's Eve? Is there anything we should know when traveling at this time (reservations, places being closed)? Any information is welcome.
I've heard the weather around this time is like 60's to freezing. Sooo excited about visiting.
Thanks
Re: Charleston
Hi! I live in Charleston, thought I'd help you out. I haven't been on this 'local' board in ages!!
As far as playing golf, Patriot's Point and Charleston National (both in Mt. Pleasant...just over the Cooper River from Charleston) are public/semi-private nice courses. DH enjoys both of them. Patriot's Point is actually on the water, pretty cool.
Not sure about fishing charters, some leave out of Shem Creek I believe, but I bet you can just google them too.
Shopping...King Street in Downtown Charleston has great shopping, the Market (Market Street) is kind of interesting, but is turning into more of a flea market/tourist trap. Although you ought to at least stop by. Basically, anywhere you walk around in the historic district of Charleston has great shops, from furniture to clothes, antiques, boutiques, etc. There are also outlets in N. Charleston (15 minutes up I-26) if you're interested. I'd suggest you stay in the historic district. I'll send you a private message with a copy of an email I've sent people before about restaurants and hotels/B&Bs.
DH and I have talked about getting a group together to do the NYE event at The Aquarium (which is somewhere you should visit, regardless!). I believe it's black-tie, dinner, drinks, etc. And, I think some hotels give deals with it. If you want something more low-key, I'm sure that there are plenty of bars/restaurants holding things. Two websites that might help you are www.postandcourier.net (the newspaper) and www.lowcountrymarketplace.com.
Good luck, and look out for that private message I'm getting ready to send you. Let me know if you have any more questions...either PM me or page me on the bump 6-12 board!
