Ella is doing well. She is tolorating all her feeds and they are increasing them. Soon she will have a pump to deliver them. The more calories she can get from my milk the less iv fluids she needs. The quicker she can get to full feeds the sooner she can be off the iv and if her apnea spells get better she will be able to move to Newton Wellesley hospital which is 5 min from home. One step at a time. Her heart problem resolved itself with the medication. And she was 1050 g yesterday (she was born at 1040 g) she had dropped to 950 g after birth so now that she has been able to eat she is gaining. This is a really good. So keep postitive thoughts coming our way. While not the sickest in the nursery she is one of the smaller babies. Life in the nicu is a strange experience and everything is so relative. I can't believe how little some of the babies are. A baby came in 2 days ago at 24 weeks he is only 14 oz. It makes you count your blessings and hug every one you love just a little tighter. We are also getting to know some of the other parents. Some are nicer than others and I think some people are a bit uncomfortable with the 2 mom thing but for the most part it has been great. The Drs and Nurses in particular have been very good about making sure that we are both considered equal parents. I like it when the front desk people call back to see if we can come in and say "Baby Genier's Moms are here"
I am finally getting bp checks when I am at the hospital visiting Ella. I was almost readmited on both Thursday and Friday due to uncontrolled bp. Thursday and Friday my bp was 170/110 while on my medication (not so good) Yesterday after increasing my meds both on Thursday and then again on Friday my bp was 132/75!!! Yeah! Since the Brigham is one of Harvard's teaching hospitals you get to see tons of Drs mostly residents. Since I was a complicated case I was seeing the Cheif Resident (think Bailely on Greys Anatomy) but since they couldn't get my bp under control I have now started seeing the attending dr (McDreamy) and she is so amazing. She is so on top of everything and really is taking my bp seriously. On friday she was so concerned she actually took us right away down to labor and delivery triage to make sure that I got treated right away (I still was there for 4 hours though) she is not a woman to mess with and the rest of the staff snap to attention when she is around. I like that! I feel very good about my care and am so glad that we live close to such good medical care.
oh and did mention the attending that did my c section and the resident that assisted were totally hot!!!! I mean really what more could a girl want. Super cute super smart ladies doing your surgery. Is it bad that I was flirting during my emergency c section????
Sorry that was so long...I have been missing my nesties!

Glad to hear Ella is doing so well. Hopefully she will keep right on growing and will soon be a step closer to home.
And hey, if you have to be at the hospital, what could hurt about a little eye candy?
Keep hanging in there. We are all rooting for you.

I'm so glad Ella is doing well and gaining weight. She sounds like a strong girl.
I hope your BP issues get sorted out shortly... it must be frustrating to not know exactly what's going on. Do the docs think it will sort itself out as your hormones regulate? Or will you have to be on meds for a while?
In anycase, your daughter is beautiful and congratulations. I know her arrival wasn't as planned, but I think you are handling it with amazing bravery and good humor!
