Oh my gosh ladies.... it could very well be happening! We will finally, actually have a garden. Not a pile of dirt and stones. Not an eyesore on our street. An actual garden, with shrubs and flowers. O.M.G.
This is our 3rd summer in this house - and we should actually be able to enjoy a garden out front and be proud of it.
Jen and Sarah - you might actually NOT recognize our house when you visit next.
Re: A garden!
what do you mean *could* be happening? has something started? are things planted? I need more details
that being said it sounds very exciting!!!
oh come on, you can't actually post this without pictures can you???
I would love to see your place spruced up!!! I am always looking for more ideas for my own garden too! did you do lots of perenniels?
It "may" be happening, because we got our a$$es to the greenhouses this week (finally DH is done his course and we have some time together before he gets caught up with his side business).
**backstory** When we moved in, the previous owners had a decent front and back garden but they were totally not our style - they were a bit overgrown and a little too wild and crazy. Our style is more pruned and spaced out. So, Mike got a little crayzay and demolished both gardens and kept the perennials that they did have (a handful of hostas, a boxwood or two, and some other ones I'm not sure of the name). THEN when we had our siding, eavestroughs, fascia, soffits done, the front was just a pile of dirt. I have b*tched and moaned that we need to put something together and finally we have had timetables that match up.
We bought a few more perennials (mostly boxwood - I love them and they're easy to prune/shape), and a bunch of annuals on sale. I need me some colour in my garden. We have a little tree that we saved from the previous owners - Mike moved its location and it may or may not survive (boooo). Now we have a bunch of beauties waiting to be planted and Mike's bringing more home in the truck as we speak!
Oooh and got the most beautiful hanging basket today. I am ecstatic. I may actually be proud when I drive up to my house!
Andrea, I promise pictures when they actually get planted and the mulch is down!
sounds awesome!!! I really find gardening to be an instant gratification type of activity. ie. pull a weed - it's not there! woohoo looks nice. hahah.
We mulched our flower beds earlier this year - it looked so awesome and i thought it would mean no more weeds. No such luck!! I don't think I used enough (I think it's supposed to be 3 inches thick to keep away the weeds!!!) just a little tip. can't wait to see
how exciting! have fun!
Are you saying that I am actually going to have to remember your house number now??? Man oh man.
We had a similar situation to yours when we moved in here. We have been doing a little bit each year and it is so nice to drive up to our house and see it look neat and tidy.
Can't wait to see what you guys have done.
That's so exciting! It's amazing how much gardens add to the curb appeal.
I can't wait to see the before and after pics!
Awesome - that is exciting. I hate looking at our front of the house because our driveway is not paved yet, and we want to do some stone work in the front and then some gardening maybe next year. Right now our place has NO curb appeal! Except for my potted Gerbera Daisies growing like weeds on my front steps.
Looking forward to seeing the before & after pictures!
Awesome! It'll be great that you'll have a garden that's more reflective of your taste. Can't wait to see before and afters!
