Hey ladies. I just read this on another board, and wanted to pass along the information. I'd hate for it to happen to anyone else. With this economy, the number of incidents of credit card fraud is increasing... people are getting deperate.

Jackie- I'm soo glad you posted about this. I forgot to write about an incident that happened to me last week. Someone called me during the AM and said they were calling from Mastercard. I said OK....and they wanted to verify some information. When I asked from what company they were calling from the guy just said Mastercard (I've never had this happen to me...I mean they can call from CapitalOne Mastercard but never just Mastercard). This was my first red flag. The gentleman wanted me to verify several personal things...but I refused to b/c I didn't know what credit card company he was calling in regards to. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor...then he hung up on me.
I'm sure this was a scam b/c the guy wasn't being clear as to why he was calling nor from where he was calling. He had an Indian accent (I guess they are paying ppl with Indian accent to do this...since recently a lot of work is being sent to India, ppl might think ohh this is for real).
So ppl please look out for this. I called my parents right afterwards to let them know b/c I always feel the rents are always more vulnerable. W/e you do don't verify info...I always prefer everything in writing. The same day CapitalOne called I told them...w/e you want must be in writing. They said OK.
OMG, that's scary. People really are getting very desperate. I am always very alert with strange calls like that too, you have to be sure to ask a lot of questions and verify the identity of the person calling.
I'm glad you caught on to that scam right away. Good for you!
Oh my goodness, thanks so much for posting this. Thieves get me so angry, if I get one of these calls I'm going to start yelling!
Cynthia, thank goodness you picked up on the scam!
