Asyou guys know they recently passed a law in DC so out-of-state same-sexmarriages (that's a long phrase) are recognized in the District. No paperworkor anything - if you got married somewhere else, you're married here now. Tocelebrate that and our fifth wedding anniversary, Jen and I threw a party onSaturday night and called it our "re-wedding"
It was so much fun.We invited our closest friends here, the people who have been really supportiveof our marriage and life together here. We moved down here right after we gotmarried in Mass. so these people are really our "married" friends -the ones who met us as a couple/family and have always known us that way. Soanyway, it was a good time. We had a great, relaxed day - slept in, went for ourweekly long run together, got our hair done at the salon together, and thencame home to hang out with some friends who came early and wait for fooddeliveries. We served food from a couple of our favorite local places -Lebanese Taverna and Georgetown Cupcake - and also served a yummy, summerydrink called Fancy Panties
(1 pt vodka + 1 pt pink lemonade + 2 pts Champagne). We read alittle part of our original ceremony and each read new vows to each other, inthe form of 10 promises. Then we said "With this ring, I re-wed" andthere was much smooching
I wanted to share our new vows with you guys.
Myvows to Jen:
- I promise to always say yes when you propose an adventure.
- I promise to do everything I can to make your dreams come true, including taking you to New Zealand someday and getting a sable-colored Sheltie.
- I promise to always be a good and cheerful navigator, even when we get lost, and to always say thank you for driving.
- I promise to keep finding new and yummy ways to cook without wheat or dairy.
- I promise to set a good example for our children by eating vegetables so you don?t have to.
- I promise to always let you manage our money so we don?t end up in the poorhouse.
- I promise to let you have first dibs on your own shoes, even when they go perfectly with my outfit.
- I promise to respect the sacrifices you make for me. They are too many to list.
- I promise to respect your right to your opinions even, and especially, when I don?t agree. This includes music, television, religion, the importance of making the bed, and whether or not grapefruit juice is delicious.
- I promise to be your best friend and your biggest fan, to make you laugh, to be amazed every day at my luck in getting to be with you, and to do everything I can to make every year better than the last.
Jen?s vows to me:
- I promise to never purchase a hotel room without consulting the consumer reviews first.
- I promise to always be your wing-woman, coming along to provide small talk and ask questions to new acquaintances.
- I promise to always help find whatever it is that I cleaned or organized away to where you can?t find it.
- I promise to be your companion, through all of our fantastic adventurous, like Paris, and our misadventures, like that dude ranch out of Deliverance.
- I promise to protect you, even if it is just from a mouse or a spider.
- I promise to go along with you, from crossing the street to crossing the country.
- I promise to listen to you, though sometimes you?ll have to remind me of what you just said.
- I promise to admire you, which is easy because you are amazing, and it is easy to admire someone who is smart, who challenges me to be more, but who also thinks that I?m okay just as I am too.
- I promise to enjoy you and our life, because it is so many things, and has already taken us so many places and we?ve only been in it together for a little while.
- I promise to love you because you are simply too great not to fall in love with again and again.

I love it... what a fun, beautiful day. I still cannot believe that you two have been married for five years already! Both of your vows are great... so sweet, but hilarious too.
Oh, and if I weren't pregnant, I would drink a gallon of Fancy Panties... it sounds freakin delish.
Maybe I don't have a heightened sense of smell, but I've never smelled any vagina on my pants. -- TSD

I love the vows. They are so touching. (I have to admit, I got a little misty-eyed when I read them!)
