XP: Has anyone resealed granite?

I know you're supposed to reseal granite countertops something like every 2-3 years or so but where do I find the products to do this?  And how hard is it?

Re: XP: Has anyone resealed granite?

  • I just bought granite sealer spray at BB&B.  The spray has directions like clean countertop first and leave spray on for so long...it was really easy.

Well that sounds easy enough!  I never would have thought to look at BB&B; I'll have to check it out the next time I'm there.  Thanks!

  • I've never resealed granite myself, but i work for a countertop fabricator. You buy sealer at home depot, lowe's- those types of places. You basically wipe it on, and wipe it off. Check the directions of the sealer you get because they arent all the same. You also need to check the length of time between sealing, I am only aware of 1 year or 15 year sealers (some people seal every 6 months).
  • Well this sounds much easier than I feared, actually.  I'll have to get on this overdue project soon.

  • we are supposed to reseal ours every 3 months!
  • I got my sealant at HD. I was told to do it every 6-12 months, depending on the granite.

It's sinfully easy. Just pour some sealant on a wipe, wipe it until the gloss is gone, and let it sit for 24 hours. Then you're done.

And yet, my FIL thinks it takes thousands of dollars and professional sealers to seal granite.

Seal your Granite if it needs to be resealed. There are some testing to be done to know if you should do it already. When water splashed on the surface no longer beads up. If there are stains or damage, contact a stone-care professional for repair.
