XP WWYD: Kitchen Cabinets

I posted this on D&R but thought some local opinions might be nice too! You all know the area and buyers expectations around here!

We need to replace our cabinets: they are old, we want to add a pantry cabinet and add corner cabinets to maximize the space. We bought a new stove and dishwasher Jan 2007 thinking we would only be in the house a year more and they would match the painted cabinets. We have since decided to stay here 5 more years...now we want to do the major cabinet overhaul!

With that said, we were looking at white cabinets tonight at Lowe's and they are all laminate...unless you go with the wood cabinets and a white glaze but it appears to be off white options only. This doesn't look too good with white appliances.

Do we 1. Get new wood cabinets and all new appliances (we need a new fridge anyway)

2. Go with the laminate white cabinets and stay with the white appliances

3. Do something else (what I don't know!)

We don't have a huge budget for cabinets so custom is probably out of our price range.

Thanks!

Re: XP WWYD: Kitchen Cabinets

  • I would go with the laminate white. No reason to purchase all new appliances. Or, do not do white at all and do a wood tone.

  • I like the idea of natural wood cabinets, if that will fit into your decor.  Then - color of appliances doesn't matter.  I definitely wouldn't replace appliances that are only a year old.
  • Do a google image search and see what you can find with light wood and white appliances. I don't think it would look bad in my head, but I wouldn't replace appliances just for looks, you know?

Good luck with the cabinets, we need to rip ours out and replace them, but we're not sure we want to pay the price to do it!?
