New to Indiana!

Hello all!  I will be moving to Indiana in 4 days, so I thought I'd introduce myself.  I initially joined the Knot to help me plan my July 4th wedding (rained all day, but had a blast!), so figured the Nest was the next step.  Moving from Mass (originally from Maine).  Husband going back to school at Purdue.  I'm currently looking for a teaching job.  Ready for something different.  Know nothing about Indiana, so will probably be asking for advice regularly!  I'll cut this short before I ramble on...

Re: New to Indiana!

  • We just moved this past December, I went to undergrad a little north of Purdue.  We are down in Indy, I am a teacher too, good luck finding a position it is rough this year.
  • Welcome! I grew up in Indiana and love it, so I hope you and DH will enjoy life here! We're a pretty quiet board here (but getting more talkative!) but everyone is really friendly and helpful!

    Good luck getting settled!

  • Good luck with your move!

Hubby started his job in Indy in Jan, we closed on our house in March, and I hope to actually be in Indy in a few months.  I'm finishing up grad school, looking for jobs, and getting used to Indy.  I think there are quite a few newer people on the board all asking questions so hopefully you'll feel right at home.

  • Good luck with the move!

I moved here a little over a year ago from Chicago.  I hope you enjoy it here, and ask anything....the ladies here are great.

  • Good luck with the move and welcome to the board! :)
  • Welcome! What is YH going back to school for (if you don't mind me asking)?

I would recommend looking outside of Lafayette/WLafayette school corp as many grad can stay in the area. I know one of my fellow alumni friends ended up at Frankfort. You could also look into Lebanon if you don't mind a bit of a drive.

I would recommend getting on building sub lists right away since the market is pretty tight, even for subs.

Let me know if you need any advice on the area. It's been awhile since we've lived there, but we still go back to visit fairly frequently.

Move along, nothing to see here.....
  • Welcome!

  • He's going back for History.  Has a Master's in German, but they won't accept it, so he'll do a Master's in History and then go on to his PhD.  I've been looking ALL over for jobs, basically anything within 45 minute drive, few postings that I've applied for, only heard back on a couple, often that they've already filled the position.  Trying not to get frustrated.  Right now just exploring a bit and trying to get all our stuff moved in and unpacked!  I will definitely post if I have questions!  Thanks!
  • Good luck with your job search.  I gave up for a few months but I'm trying to get back into it.  Good luck to your hubby too.  I got a BA in history but decided to go the science route instead.  Still love the subject (as DH noted when we were packing my books which are 2/3 history related). ;)
