s/o - Do you ever bring work home?

I do all.the.time.  Its the double edged sword from being able to work from home 1 day/week.  I'm constantly reading cases as we watch tv in the evenings and check my email from home at least once a day.  The only firm line I draw in the sand is that I do not answer work calls during personal time.....although i have been known to check my voicemail a time or two Stick out tongue

Re: s/o - Do you ever bring work home?

  • Only during event season.  During that time I'll often go to a bar after work, grab a drink and sit and get a lot of my writing related tasks done.  Sometimes I'll do some computer work at home but since a lot of my work relies on our database and making phone calls it can be difficult to do at home.

  • No, I can't really.  I don't have access to our patient databases/records at home, so there is little I can do. I do check my work e-mail, but it is rare that something has come in after I have left for the day and even more rare that is needs to be addressed before I get in in the morning.

  • I do wayyyyy too frequently. But I am especially guilty of bringing work home with me and then letting it languish in my briefcase, untouched, all evening or all weekend. That is the worst because I both don't get the work done and don't get to relax because I know there is work I should be doing.

Now that I have my work-issued blackberry, I am on email pretty much all the time. There is a strong expectation that we'll be available via email, even on the weekends, and I've gone along with it. I actually much prefer the blackberry to having to log on on a regular computer.

  • Bring it home - yes

Actually do it - hardly ever ;)

If I really need to get something done, I go into the office on the weekend or stay late. But that's pretty rare. I am a very lucky lawyer.

  • I remote in and do work most weeknights. But I'm only in the office 7-8 hrs (with lunch) due to the train/dog schedule, so its not unreasonable.
  • my work email is synced to my blackberry, so i'll check email when i'm not in the office and if it's critical i'll deal with it, but other than that i don't. then again, i don't really do work that can be taken home.
