MADISON RESTAURANT RECS

Hi ladies! My one year anniversary is on Sunday (OMG!!!) and I haven't made any reservations for dinner yet. Any suggestions on a great restaurant to go to celebrate in Madison or surrounding areas? TIA!!!! Big Smile

Re: MADISON RESTAURANT RECS

  • Yayayayayayyyy!  Happy (early) Anniversary!

I like Eno Vino, because I'm a wino.  And because I know how to get there.

I'm sure there are a ton of cool places downtown that will get suggested too, but I haven't been to them yet, so I guess I'm really not much help.  (Though, I have heard Harvest is good...and Restaurant Magnus... and L'Etoile...)

  • I'm a big fan of Lombardino's (partially because it's down the street).

Sardine is also really good, as is Magnus.

  • I also like Eno Vino.  Johnny Delmonicos is good for steak. I went to Etoile many years ago and it was amazing (though really expensive).  Louisianne's in Middleton is great for Cajun. We don't do fancy much (especially with our little one).
  • Happy Anniversary! Hmmm....where to start??

As others have suggested, Eno Vino is fantastic.  I also really like Harvest. Restaurant Magnus has a "New Scandanavian" menu now, so it may not be what it used to be, just an FYI.  For special occasions DH and I have dined at Fresco ( http://www.foodfightinc.com/fresco.htm), good food and a nice view.  Quivey's Grove Stone House ( http://www.quiveysgrove.com/), Le Chardonnay ( http://lechardonnay.homestead.com/), and not as fancy as the others, but still very nice: Liliana's in Fitchburg (http://www.lilianasrestaurant.com/).  I also reviewed Villa Dolce (Middleton) in my blog if you are interested.  Have fun choosing!

  • Hmm...Eno Vino and Harvest sound like the overall favorite of everyones, I'll check those out. I'm bad with names, but I think we've been to Restaurant Magnus, L'etoile, Lombardino's, and Le Chardonnay already. Thanks for all the recs. I'm gonna end up looking them all up anyway! Smile
  • We went to Lombardino's for our anniversary this year. It was good but I was actually expecting more out of it.

  • If you're not set on going on your actual anniversary, it's Madison Restaurant Week  through Friday. Some of Madison's best restaurants offer three course dinners for $25/p.

Was just going to say this!  It's a great way to check out local places for less $$ than you'd usually spend.  Happy Anniversary!

We thought about doing it, not as an anniversary thing, but just for fun. But I'm also lost about which one is a good deal. I could always just the use the old "close my eyes and point" method.

Thanks everyone for the anniversary wishes!

A friend of mine went to Ruth Chris last night for the Madison Restaurant Week special and said it was AMAZING.  I've always heard that place is fantastic, but pricey, so this would be a good time to check it out if you're interested.

  • I second Ruth Chris's.  We just went there for the first time last night and it was delicious!  They only have 3 entree choices but the $25 is a good deal considering that is what many of the entrees themselves are.  The fillet with blue cheese crust was the best!
  • Louisianne's in Middleton is great for Cajun.

I second that. I've been to Fleming's, Ruth Chris, Smokey's, Tornado Club, Madison's and my favorite by far is Lousianne's. Great food, great atmosphere, great staff, hot bar manager :)

  • So we ended up going to Eno Vino. It was awesome! Great food, great wine, and they even gave us our dessert (the chocolate fondue) for free since we put it was our 1 year anniversary on opentable.com. Woo hoo!!! Thanks for all the recs.

Oh, and in case you were curious, I ended up buying our replacement top tier at la Brioche. I also ended up just getting buttercream, BUT they messed up on our filling. I ordered raspberry, and they gave me apricot. So I'm gonna try to go back and get my money back. I definitely don't need another cake, because that cake was ginormous!

YAY FOR ONE YEAR DOWN!!! Big Smile
