DH interviewing in Melrose Park. Tell me where to live.

LOL

DH is interviewing in Melrose park, Il.  We are def. not city dwellers.  It looks like he could easily take the commuter rail into work so we could move out of the city a bit.

I'll take any info ppl feel like giving Big Smile

Also, if there are any good real estate websites, please share.  For isntance, out here in New Englad we have www.nemoves.com which is a great house hunting site.  I've been googling and haven't found anything great.

Do you think it would be tough for me to get a job?  preferably I would do sales/use tax at a large corporate retailer.  walgreen's would be perfect but they are too far away.

 TIA

Re: DH interviewing in Melrose Park. Tell me where to live.

  • Elmhurst might be an option.  It's a great neighborhood, but can be a bit pricey in areas.  To the southwest, there are some nice place in Westchester, but I don't know much about schools, etc.  I'd skip Bellwood and Broadview - more because they have the feel of a city neighborhood than a suburb if anything.  I haven't checked out Maywood in a while, so I'm no help there.

Further south you have Brookfield, LaGrange, Hollywood, and North Riverside.  Those are all great neighborhoods. Different pricing and ages on the homes depending on where you look, but good schools and hs, and real family areas with access to major shopping, restaurants, etc.

Even further west is Lombard, but I don't think it's far to the Metra that goes through Melrose Park.  Also a good area!

I don't know much about your area of expertise, but the job market is a little tight right now overall.  Not that folks aren't finding jobs, but the hunting time is a little long. But that might not apply to what you do.

    HTH!

  • Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Riverside.  Any of those areas are very close and not in the city.

  • All the ones that were mentioned are good... I would also recommend Elmwood park as well.
  • We live in La Grange Park, which is a little more affordable than La Grange and closer to the city.  My favorite real estate Web tool is HomeFinder on www.bairdandwarner.com.  I think it gives more info than realtor.com, including which houses are already under contract.

Two area realtors that seem to know what they're doing are Nancy Miller (ReMax) and Dean Rouso (?).  Happy hunting!

  • I like Oak Park, River Forest, LaGrange, LaGrange Park, Western Spring and Elmhurst.  I don't know much about Riverside and Brookfield, but I have co-workers who love the area.  Elmhust is also nice.  Westchester is also decent.  I'd skip Maywood, Bellwood, Hillside, Stone Park and Melrose Park.  Good luck.
  • I work in Melrose Park and live in Willow Springs.  Small town at the edge of the forest preserve.  30mins from everything.  There are multiple ways for me to get to work.  All other locations are great too!  Find a good realtor and you will find a lot because of the housing market.  Good Luck!
