Weird, weird, weird.
So I had my first of several scheduled appts with a neurosurgeon last night at Mercy Hospital. When the doctor's office first said they had night appts, my initial instinct was to be suspicious. What kind of doctor sees patients after 6? Still, I thought there was no hurt in trying, since I wouldn't have to miss work to go.
Well, I get to this office yesterday and when I walk in, there are like 15 viejitos sitting there already, hanging out, all totally engrossed in the novela that's blazing on the 1985 television set. I glance at my mother, who gives me a puzzled look, but I shrug and proceed to check in. The receptionist is talking loudly on the phone with someone about some kind of television show and eating cheetos. When I finally get her attention, she retrieves my MRI films and tells me to have a seat.
My mom and I sit down for about twenty minutes, minding our own business, texting each other jokes about how there must be at least 1000 combined years in this room, when she starts chatting up a little old lady beside us.
She asks the pleasant looking lady if this is her first time here.
"Yes." She answers, kindly.
She starts going around the room, asking everyone if this is their first time here. Everyone's answer seems to be "yes," until she gets to a sweet looking hispanic woman in the corner.
"Oh no, this isn't my first appointment. He operated my brain."
I glance at my mother, who continues to probe.
"Well what time was your appointment?" My mother asks.
"Oh, it was at 3:30... But I know how this doctor works, so I didn't get here till 6."
I glance at my mother again, this time unabashedly alarmed. Mind you, it's 8:30 PM at this point.
"Your appointment was at 3:30?" She asks, incredulous.
"Oh yes, but he's worth the wait. I've gotten out of here at 3:30 in the morning before."
WHAT?!!!!
We proceeded to ask to receptionist how much longer we'd be waiting, since we'd already been there for half an hour.
"Oh, a few more hours."
WHAT?!!! What kind of freakazoid doctor's office is this??
So, that was my first experience with a neurosurgeon. I didn't even make it past the waiting room doors. I don't think I'll be making any more night appointments.
Re: Super bizarre experience at the Dr's office last night
WTF! And the staff has to stay that long too! Does the doctor not work mornings?! I would have walked out too. Luckily your mom started asking the patients and you discovered this only 30 min into the wait

Jackie, I literally thought I had walked into the twilight zone. THANK GOD my mom was her nosy self and started asking questions!!!
I actually don't know if he works mornings... But yes, his poor staff has to stay until 3:30 in the morning. That is just unbelievable to me!
LOL Jenny! Those little old ladies have nothing better to do than beat you to your appts!
Nah, I'm not going back to that office ever again. I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. I have a few other appts lined up within the next month so hopefully one will be a winner.
LOL OMG! ::hums twiglight zone song::
That's nuts. Weirdo doctor.
