teaching question?
Hi everyone! - I am just looking into information about teaching careers in your state. My husband and I are both high school teachers and are looking to move to the U.S from Canada. I am trying to gauge what the teaching climate is like in your state (i.e., jobs, relative pay, etc?) Or, if you have any recommendations/advice on any states that are especially good for teachers, please let me know! I thought a few years back that I heard of some states that were offering signing bonuses to teachers who committed to 2 years? Anything like that still available? TIA

I am a teacher, this is my fifth year. Honestly at this point there are not many teaching jobs at all. It has been like this since I have been a teacher. I have friends who have masters degrees and graduated with me and still just sub. It is really not a good time to want to get into teaching here. You can get into a private school for about half the price of public schools. Obviously districts vary on pay and your experience and education will adjust the salary.
I have heard that Vegas and Hawaii need teachers

I second trying Hawaii or Vegas. I have friends who have done both, actually.
I also have a friend who recently moved to Washinton, DC, and said they're looking for teachers there and the pay and benefits are great.
Out here, the pay and benefits are good, but as pp said, jobs are tough to come by, depending on what you're looking for. Special Ed. is a shoe-in, but a lot of general elementary ed. positions are flooded, as are secondary English, history, and physical education.
