Trip to see snow!

Hey girls!!! I need your help!

I've never seen snow so I told my DH  that this year for my Birthday I really want to see snow. My birthday is Dec. 2 so its the very first week of December. We're looking into Gatlinburg, TN and Traverse City, MI. But there's just soo much out there that I really want to research everything before we decide (we'd like to stay in a cabin).

Has anyone been to/lived in:
Maine
Northern NY
Northern MN
Vermont
Northern WI

Any info you have is much appreciated! TIA!

Re: Trip to see snow!

  • I used to live in Michigan and visited Traverse City many times when I was young. It's beautiful there :) I have many friends from college that travel up there once a year to visit the wineries. lol
    Hawaii
  • I have some friends that go to Beech Mountain in North Carolina every year the week of Christmas. The love it BUT the only snow they really see is blown. All my family lives in Michigan(The Detroit area) and I dont think they have much snow that soon in the winter either. They may get a little bit that is slushy, dirty and melts pretty quick.

I would reccommend Co or Utah. You can bet they will have snow in the Rockies that time of the year. There you will get the real pretty snow experience that isn't icy, slushy, dirty yuck snow.

  • I lived in southern Maine until I was in 8th grade. You never know how the snow will be. I would suggest going to a ski resort.

I have also lived in upstate NY near the VT border. There are many ski resorts up there.

I would say check out Colorado for some awesome skiing. I have skied both the northeast and out there and it is so much better in Colorado.

  • I spent 26 years in MN growing up.  If you have any questions about it, email me!  It gets super cold there but the snow is awesome for doing outdoor recreational stuff.
  • I haven't been to any of the places you have mentioned except for Gatlinburg, TN - and I would just caution that there may not be snow in early December like a prior poster mentioned.
