Re: Pregnancy disability question??

  • http://www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de2589.pdf    here's the chart that figures the benefit amounts.
  • wait..are those dollar figures after the income amounts??? that can't be right!!!

  • The weekly amount is based on quartly income. I forget exactly how they figure it, but it's based on your highest income quarter within a certain time perion (1 yer, I believe). It's pretty confusing but it gives you a basic idea.

  • so if you make thousands of dollars a week, you only get a few dollars on disability??? (i.e. $2,000 a week makes $85!!) ?I don't remember making so little last time!!

You're reading the chart incorrectly. $2000 per week would be a $26,000 quarter. The amounts are based on QUARTERLY income not weekly. Take a look at the chart again, but look at your quarterly pay, not weekly pay. The chart maxes out at 22,000+ with a weekly benefit of $959. I'm not sure if that's the max benefit amount or if the chart is incomplete.

the chart is directly from the State of CA's EDD website. www.edd.ca.gov

  • OOOOOOOOOooooooh!  I get it..duh...thank you...okay, that makes more sense....So, do you know if they are listing the pretax amount?  I am assuming yes...

thank you so much for helping!

  • It seems like these are the pretaxed amounts. Remember your actual disability pay is not taxed also. Good luck with your pregnancy, looks like we are due around the same time. Have you gone on disability yet? My doctor put me on this week.
  • I am going to start some time next week (see doc on Tues and will get my note) I am so looking forward to having a month off before everything gets crazy!

  • SPeaking of disability. I got a letter yesterday saying my SSN was previously used by someone else. However, they dont know if this is because my last name changed or because someone actually filed before under my SSN. Just great. So this has delayed my disability payments. I had to go to the SS office today to get a letter of verification saying my SSN belongs to me. Always make sure you all follow up on you disability!
  • Where didyou ladies get all the forms to fill out... I just spoke to my HR last week and they told me to go to cA Social Services -- when I looked on line last week I had dificulty finding the forms. any links would be appreciated.

     Thanks!

  • Your doctors office should have the forms because there is a portion of it they have to fill out before it can be mailed in. Most doctor offices also charge  a fee to fill it out.
  • Turns out someone used my SSN to file for disability before without me knowing it. Just great! So this puts my disability check payment on hold another week for them to verify my wages against my ssn. This really upsets me as I have to go a whole month without a disability check, and I pay into the system just to have some dork take advantage of me.
