Name ?

At my  new job, Julie came in and I introduced her as my wife. A lady I work with asked that why I prefered that over partner, spouse, significant other, etc. I just said that it's what I prefer referring to her as, because it came natural to us.

That got me thinking when you introduce your DW's to other do you say my partner, my wife, my ______.

Re: Name ?

  • I typically use "my partner...."

  • We always introduce as "wife".  Not only is it the most comfortable and natural for us, but I also like the way it makes our relationship perfectly clear to others.  I was actually really excited to start using the terms "married" and "wife" even before CT recognized ss marriage as my own little act of protest.  kinda like "you can't tell me how to define my relationship - I'll claim those words for myself tyvm."

wow, that turned into a long answer to a short question. I introduce andrea as my wife :)

  • I use a mix of wife and partner. If I'm wearing my "political hat" I always use wife, but partner feels most comfortable to Nic.

this. except that i'm not in ct and ohio still doesn't recognize my marriage.

  • We use wife.  If we're with friends K will jokingly/lovingly call me her "spousal unit" :-)

    In person, wife.

    In passing to strangers, spouse.

  • I use wife and partner both. When I'm comfortable with whoever I'm talking to, I use wife, but when I'm unsure, I use partner. I love claiming though (and have gotten into conversation about my choice of terms) so I like the impact that wife can have at times.

  • Wife, mostly. If I'm talking about her when she's not around and I feel the need to keep it gender-neutral, I use "spouse."
