what area of Vegas to move to?

This is very premature, but I'd appreciate your help!

I'm applying for a job at UNLV that I think I have a fairly good shot at getting.  My family live in Rhodes Ranch.  Can you recommend an area that would be convenient for my work yet fairly close to my family (in Rhodes Ranch) that is also a good area to raise a child?  (Our son is 10 months.)

We don't want to tell my parents our plans until it's closer to a go, otherwise I'd ask them!

 Thanks!!

You could check out Rhodes Ranch as it isn't too far from UNLV--just take the 215 to the airport underpass.  There's also a fairly new master planned community where I live--Mountain's Edge.  It's about 10 minutes max to Rhodes Ranch.  Green Valley/Henderson area puts you close to UNLV and about 20 minutes from Rhodes Ranch.  Also check out Coronado Ranch and Nevada Trails--both are very close to Rhodes Ranch and not too far from UNLV.  Anywhere in the southwest to southeast part of the valley should put you close to either rhodes ranch, unlv, or right in between.

Good luck with the job interview process.  Another good area to look is the area west of the 215 between Sunset and Russell.  My H and I just put an offer in on a house over there and I really like the area.

It would be pretty close to Rhodes Ranch (maybe 5 minutes away) and there are a lot of good deals on nice homes over there.  Its also right up against the base of the mountains which I love and close to a lot of shopping and amenities in both directions.

I work at UNLV too.  The neighborhood right around the university is on the old side and not especially nice, probably not a place where I'd want to raise my kids.   The area I'm talking about above is probably a 20 - 30 minute drive from UNLV.

If you'd want to be even closer to work, there is an up and coming neigborhood south of the 215 around Rainbow and Jones, also very close to Rhodes Ranch.

  • Thanks!!

Well, I was offered the position, but they described the salary and benefits package, and it was quite a bit lower than what I'm making now, so we can't justify a move at this point.  I'm very disappointed.  Maybe next time!
