XP: Anyone use Hotwire to book a hotel room?

I'm trying to book a hotel room in Austin for next Friday...but it won't tell me the name of the hotel (which makes me a little unsure about whether it's a good deal or not). Is that normal? When do you find out the name of the hotel? I don't want to find out after I've already paid for it!

Re: XP: Anyone use Hotwire to book a hotel room?

  • You find out after you've booked.

We actually just used this for our quickie trip to Atlanta tonight/tomorrow to check on our condo.

I chose a 4-star -- it tells you the brands -- they're usually Hyatt, Omni, etc.

3.5 star is usually Hilton, Crowne Plaza

    etc.

We got a hotel room for $70 that is normally $350 in downtown Atlanta.

  • ditto mrs.b.

they DO tell you after you pay.  :)

But like she said, they usually tell you examples of what it could be and if you are ok with that level of hotel, then I'd book it!

  • Yes I have and I don't recommend it. We used it a few years back to book a hotel in San Antonio and while it was a very nice hotel, they put us right next to the elevator and it was soooo loud all night long! We hardly got any sleep at all and when we asked to be moved away from it, they said they didn't have any other rooms available. So you never know what might happen when booking with those kinds of sites. Just my .02.?

    GL!?

    GL!

That stinks, but could happen when booking anywhere.

That does stink!  Was it during a busy time?  What hotel was it?
  • After doing some "sleuth" work, I've come to the conclusion that it's either The Driskill or the Omni downtown that we'd be staying in.  I'm still trying to convince my husband to do it since it's such a great deal for a 4 star hotel and I'm crossing my fingers that we'd get The Driskill (though either would be fantastic).  That hotel looks amazing!!!
  • I just did this yesterday for the first time, and I am so pleased!  Though you dont know the hotel until you book, the price difference was worth it for me, and I knew what star rating it would be and the exact area I would be in...so for me it weighed out perfectly.  Not knowing the hotel was fine, since I knew how nice it was, where it was and the cost.

Granted I was only looking here in the HEB area, I got a $150 room, for $50.  And it happened to be out fav hotel for when my mom visits-the Hyatt Place...i had a feeling it would be...there arent a ton of 3 star and above hotels in Hurst, and hotwire only listed one.  Since I knew all of the 3 stars were located right next to eachother, I knew it would be one those, and I was fine with any of them.

Also, when I booked it didnt assign me a room, I got to request what floor and hall, etc when I checked in.  I just asked for first floor near and exit, and I got it.

I know! I want to do it right now! Steve wants to wait and talk about it some more tonight before we decide.
  • A friend of ours uses it all time and has never had a bad experience. She has always gotten really good deals at great hotels.

Yeah, you don't find out until the end which hotel it is.
