Do you rent or own?

H & I rent currently. I would love to own my own home but we're saving for a down payment right now. Hopefully in the next couple of years we'll be house hunting. When I think about how expensive everything seems to be though, it sometimes seems impossible..

Do you ladies rent or own? Do you like your current home/apartment?

Re: Do you rent or own?

  • we own a condo. ?It's a 1 bed/ 1 bath, with LR, DR, Kitchen and laundry closet. ? I do really like it, it's easy to clean and love that it's ours, so we can paint and do projects and change it all we want. ?We opted for the condo because our monthly payments are about the same as renting an apartment the same size would be, so it didn't make sense for us to pay rent that we would never see back again. ?We're planning on selling this one day to use as a big down payment on a house (in addition to our savings).

  • own. love it. although i am counting the days until we can afford to move back to the part of queens we grew up in

  • We're closing on our co-op on Friday.  DH and I have the same plans as smurfette... own our co-op for a few years then sell it for a down payment for a house.  Houses are waaayyy too expensive (at least for us just starting out)!  We were able to put 25% down on our co-op... that would probably be only 10% on most of the houses we saw online.
  • I was actually checking the prices of co-ops in my area and they seemed pretty reasonably priced. It's definitely a possibility..

But we're really not sure what we're going to do just yet. We'd like to own a home eventually but we're not sure where.. We were even thinking of Queens. Just because it would be way easier for H's job since he works in the city.

We're just going to have to keep saving for now.

  • We rent and we hate it.  We want something that's ours so badly, but we just can't swing it right now.  We'd also like to move off the island sometime, so we are waiting until we decide where to go.
  • we closed on our first home in may. i love it. i grew up in an apt and when i was 22 i moved out, into another apt lol this is my first house i have ever lived in! my FI grew up in a house so its exciting for him but not as exciting as it is for me lol
