Where to stay, what to do for Vacay, in SD?

Gosh, I know you girls must get that question all of the time!  I'd welcome anything, though!  Thanks!

  • There's some good information here.

I always suggest the following locations to those who come in from out of town:

    La Jolla Shores/Caves

    San Diego Zoo

Balboa Park (museums and whatnot... right next to the zoo)

    Coronado

  • My number one piece of advice is RENT A CAR. I love this city, but our public transit isn't the best (it's getting better, for sure, but still lacking). If you want to be able to do/see all that the city has to offer, having your own set of four wheels is crucial.

If you're not looking to stay right on the beach, I'd check out the hotels in Hotel Circle/Mission Valley. It's a good location, close to most freeways, and lots of different options/price points.

Like PP said, check out the zoo and Balboa Park for sure. If you've got kids, Legoland is awesome. If you're new to SoCal in general, Disneyland is only about an hour and a half north.

  • some fun tours:

Temecula for wine tasting.  If you head out that way I would highly recommend a hot air balloon ride over the vineyards.

There are also other hot air balloon companies that fly over the beach at Del Mar if Temecula is too far for you.

     Have fun!

  • danigirl gave you a great link.  i got info mailed to me before we had moved here.  lots of fun ideas!

we also did this tour when my ILs came for a visit.  we all enjoyed it.  http://www.trolleytours.com/san-diego/

  • If you want to stay by the beach, I loved Tower 23 in Pacific Beach. You would be close to Belmont Park which is fun. We rented bikes and just went up and down the coast.
