Those who have an Au Pair or want to advise, TIA

So we have a week or so left with our current au pair, we have had a decent year with her and she is very good with our kids.  However, we have had a fair amount of challenges with her over the year, most recently we just returned from vacation to find out she had been on my lap top to go online and accidently deleted my entire photo gallery and itunes, the tunes are what they are but the photos (no back up hard drive) are from my pregnancy to my 14 month old twins!!!!   She is not leaving the area and is going to another family for another year. I really don't want to do a fond farewell for her as I am sick to my stomach with the huge ordeal and expense we have had to recover the deleted pictures, I really am quite mad with her.  What would you do, would you do a parting gift, if so what, or just say thank you and good luck?

Re: Those who have an Au Pair or want to advise, TIA

  • First just let me say I'm so sorry that she deleted your pictures. Were you able to get some of the pictures back? I think you should thank her and get her a card. If you don't feel like gifting her than don't do it.

  • I grew up with live-in nannies pretty much from 8 to 13 and there were some doozies.  None that deleted photos or music, but one up and left while we were at sports games one Saturday.  /end hijack

I would do a card and maybe a small gift card, to barnes and noble or something?  Is she foreign or from the US?  She may like the ability to get magazines or books.  I wouldn't do anymore than $25, enough for a good hardcover probably.

HTH, I would probably suggest password protecting the computer from now on.
