Summerfest Help Needed!

Hi Ladies!

DH & I are looking to come to MKE for Summerfest (June 27-29). It is a surprise for him & I want it to be fun & romantic (and not TOO spendy). We are looking for a good hotel. Obviously, the Pfister is on the list (a little more than I would like to spend).  I am also thinking of the Ambassador but have heard mixed things about the neighborhood. Also, any truth to Jeffrey Dahmer killed victim #2 there?  I was born in Milwaukee (moved at age 5) and have been back in a long time. Anything else you highly recommend? Any great restaurants? TIA

You might want to look at Hotel Metro. It's right by the Pfister -- we stayed overnight there (we live in Madison) and had a really good time. They have a fun bar and a good little restaurant there too.

I would second hotel Metro- it's near Cathedral Square which as a lot of nice restaurants and is within walking distance of the lake for an evening stroll :-) The Ambassador is further down on Wisconsin Ave and although the rooms have been redone, if you're at all skeeved about the Dahmer thing then I would avoid it. If you're looking for something more chain like there is a Hilton a Doubletree and an InterContinental all downtown as well :-) HTH!

I would choose the Hotel Metro over The Pfister or the Ambassador.

If you are looking for a romantic dinner, def. check out Lake Park Bistro.  It is one of my favorite restaurants.  Request a table w/ the water view.  For fun, you could do a Lakefront Brewery tour.  We also went to a great Italian bistro place (I think around Brady St.??) but the name was changing, so I don't even know if it's still there.  Cute place, great for gelato or light pizza lunch.

Look into staying at County Clare! I think it would be great for you, but it might be booked already.

 I think that the rumor re: the Ambassador is true, but it's a beautiful art deco bldg and has been completely re-done. I toured the hotel once for an event and the rooms are very nice. However, it's definitely a little further out from the main downtown action, and from Summerfest, than the other hotels.
