Prenatal Vitamins...

So, I need some recs...my doctor is not being much of a help so I'm going to switch doctors...but she said she'd write me a script to get started.

Since so many of you girlies are preggers...I thought maybe you could recommend a vitamin that you like?

Thanks...and congrats to you all!  I've been so super busy with school I have not been on forever!! Big Smile

Re: Prenatal Vitamins...

  • I take Citranatal with the DHA supplement. I randomly picked one of the million samples she gave me.... I found them all to be pretty much the same.

  • My favs were the Rainbow brand from Whole Foods- they were a pain because there were 6 and you took them 3?separate?times a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner.) However, I felt like my body absorbed the most nutrients that way... plus they were v. mild- I had 0 morning sickness, I was never?nauseous?at all and I sorta think it's bc of them. "Supposedly" they're #1 in the nation, but don't quote me on that!

After 1st tri, I switched to Nature's Made and a DHA supplement... I've puked twice bc I took them on an empty stomach. So I am also in the market for a new PNV... one that I don't have to worry about if I've eaten or not. My dr gave me some samples that didn't make me nauseous (I took on an empty stomach) and I just need to see which my insurance covers... that said, the Nature's Made is a v. good?vitamin?if it works for you. It's OTC and you can even get them at Costco.?

  • Michelle,

I heard a rumor that you were switching jobs!  Is this true? I hope you are doing ok.

  • I just take the generic ones from HEB.  Once I was PG, I also started taking Expecta DHA pills.
  • I used to take TwinsLab (then available at Whole Foods and SUn Harvest) as they were the only ones that didn't make me throw up. However, they are no longer available, so now I take the Sun Harvest brand, which are ok but I must have a full stomach.

btw - for any one reading thinking of TTC but not yet pregnant, start taking your prenatals now! Folic Acid accumulates, and is most important in the first trimester, so you need to take them before getting pg, unless you already have good amount of folic acid in your diet.

  • I've decided that it's the DHA supplement making me sick, not the PNV. Whether or not the DHA supplement is necessary or not, no one really knows... it's too new on the market.?

  • i couldn't take the prescribed pre-natals, so my doc suggested flinstone gummies for the 1st trimester( 2 a day)... and then I switched to a brand called GOOD EARTH. I believe they can be bought at Target
  • I took the Prenate Elite, my doc wrote a script for them.

They seemed to work well for me and my son is big and healthy!

I took my vitamins at night and didn't have to worry about the iron coming back up and making me feel sick.
