Today's question: Do you work out?

We are not yet settled in our new house, but I can see the end of the road, and now I need to start planning for 'normal' life again! I belonged to a gym in Boston that I loved, and would work out fairly regularly. I also used to walk to work a lot, which was 4 miles each way. Now that I have a 55 minute commute each way every day, I don't know how I'll ever fit working out into my schedule...but I need to! What do you do to work out (if you do)? Do you belong to a gym?

Re: Today's question: Do you work out?

  • I used to belong to curves but the one I was going to closed. So for awhile I was not doing anything besides walking the dog around the block. I just signed dh and I up at YMCA. I am enjoying taking the prenatal water aerobics class. Eventually I will add more of a work out on the machines.
  • Hahahaha.  No.  I haven't gone to the gym since my wedding.

C and I used to belong to Gold's Gym in Clemson.  He'd go on his way to work and I'd go before I went in as well.  Now C goes to his work's gym before work every morning.   I just walk the dog and stay fairly lazy :)

  • I went to Curves outside of Charlotte NC before I moved here. I actually used to work @ Ladies Health & Fitness off Woodruff Road, but it closed earlier this year.  I have been looking into Fitness 19 on Woodruff road or even going back to Curves.

Long answer shortened-no I don't work out right now, but I'm trying to get back into it.

  • I work out obsessively everyday.  I love to go on long runs.  I get up early during the school year (5 am) to go running.  I would rather get up early and do it than go when I get home, because I usually feel pretty drained.  I like to run outside and I hate gyms and treadmills.  I'm running my first half marathon in Greenville on October 31!  I'm pretty excited about it.

  • I also work 55 minutes from home, and it has made it so hard for me to work out.  I still get there about 3-4 days a week, but that is just not where I want to be, so I have started going in the mornings, which has made things better.  I do work out at a gym, and do spinning, boxing, and "body pump" classes (well, I don't do the boxing and body pump now because I have a knee problem that I am having surgery for next week).  When I can't make it to class, I do the eliptical.  The classes are just much better for me, because they keep me interested and motivated, and are high intensity.
  • I workout everyday. My general routine is

walking 1-2 miles at lunch around the parking lot/land of my company

walking/jogging 2 miles around our neighborhood after work

If I don't get to walk at lunch, I will do 20 min (minimum) of WiiFit after my walk around the neighborhood.

Sometimes DH and I will get up before work and walk/jog. Then I have more time in the evening to have fun or I get to do WiiFit as a bonus workout. I have to say, WiiFit is my favorite workout. It is fun plus it really sculpts the body.

  • No, I don't work out everyday.

However, every Saturday I dance.  I know its not the perfect health regimen, but getting activity for several hours on one day is better than nothing right?

I've only belonged to a gym once in my life.  However, I quit going.  I belonged to the Y.  My husband and I are both on the heavy side, and snarky comments were getting to us.  I know we shouldn't have let them bother us, but it was really frustrating when you're trying to make a positive change and people want to insult you.

  • I work out 5 days a week - two days upper body, two days lower body, one day back, abs and cardio.  I also throw in some tennis, swimming, and biking.
  • I belong to the Mauldin Sports Center.   I try to go 4 or 5 days a week.  Sometimes it's hard with DS.   When I do go I mostly do the elliptical or treadmill and I take a circuit training class.   Do I like to go?  Not really- but I just paid my membership for a year and want to get my money's worth.  I worked out thru my whole pregnancy too.

  • *sigh* I REALLY need to more.

My favorite exercise is swimming so I do exercise pretty regularly in the summer.  I have figured out the "peak" hours at our community pool and can usually get about an hour of time where there is no one, or hardly no one there.  (If you've met me, you could understand why I don't want the whole world to see me in a bathing suit.)

We're talking about joining the Y since they have an indoor pool, but I can't imagine that the Y ever has hours where I would be the only person using the pool.  :(

    pfffff!

Sometimes you just have to find the right swimsuit...

A couple of years ago, when me and my husband just met, we were talking about wanting to go swimming, but I was like you.  I didn't date venture out in a swimsuit.  Well I told him we'd go to Dillards and IF I found a swimsuit that I liked we could go swimming I'd be happy to go with him to the pool.  Sure enough I found one.  We went to the beach that summer and I actually didn't mind walking from my room to the beach WITHOUT a coverup!

Try alwaysforme.com.  A ton of their swimsuits have been featured on Oprah and fashion magazines.
