Re: PCP/TTC/ATP Wednesday

  • I actually had a rather eventful afternoon yesterday! I had some spotting (my third time), so the midwife wanted me to come in for a mini dose of RoGham. I got that and she did a quick internal, which looked normal. My ute felt the appropriate size and since I was 11 weeks she pulled out the doppler. She couldn't find the heartbeat... which honestly, at 11 weeks, doesn't mean anything. That's kind of the line for when you can definitely hear it.

She felt bad though, and wanted to offer me some reassurance, so she pulled out this portable ultrasound machine... which they don't normally do, but she really wanted to check things out. So she put the probe on, and there was our baby. Looking like a real baby! Not just a blob! We could see the heartbeat flickering away... but the baby was just laying there. We must have sat there for almost 10 minutes waiting for that baby to move, her poking and prodding a bit with the ultrasound wand, when the baby JUMPED and started squirming all over the place! Our little gummy baby must have been sleeping and was pretty pissed off to be woken up!  Big Smile

It was thee coolest thing, and I'm so sorry that Trav missed it. But I'm also even more excited for our ultrasound on Monday now! Which will be on a better machine, with the sound up, and an actual ultrasound tech who can point things out. But hey, we're really having a baby!!

  • I'll have a real update later after our first u/s.  I'm scared and excited and just want it to be done already!

But as far as pregnancy goes things are good.  My boobs hurt, I'm tired and bloated.  I can handle everything except the bloat.  This is the biggest I've ever been in my life and it's taking a bit of an mental adjustment for me to deal with. I'm not dumb, I know I'm going to get big, but the ucky bloat this early is not something I prepared for.

K and I started discussing names....boy is this going to be a long process!  I told her her goal is to come up with one name a week but somehow I don't think that's going to happen Stick out tongue

  • I just realized that our swimmers should be shipping today!  I should call the bank later to confirm... How exciting!

I am just waiting for that positive opk at this point.  I am going to start testing earlier than last month (maybe around CD12?), after that scare of thinking I missed my ovulation, I don't want to worry this time!  I'm a little bummed because I'm not feeling 100%, which I think is effecting my temperature, and we are flying this weekend, which I know effects some ladies' cycles...  If all goes according my schedule thus far, I'll be ovulating on the weekend, which I would love, so I wouldn't have to deal with work.  But of course, if the flying or touch of a cold I have cause things to change, I'll get out of work for the appointment, and that will be that.  I'm just so happy to be getting started, and feeling pretty relaxed at the moment (talk to me in a week when I'm obsessively peeing on opks! ha ha!).

  • Ella is now 3lbs 1/2 oz as of last night!!!!!  Her spells are fewer and some are so minor that she is just dipping down to set the alarm off and then getting her heart rate back up by herself.  We are hoping this is a trend so that the spells keep getting better.  She is doing really well on her feedings and starting to show signs that she is getting ready to begin the process of learning how to eat.  The first step is to put her on my breast and let her fool around.  Ella is getting an eye exam today so lets hope that goes well.  She has to have her pupils dilated.  They are looking for ROP which is very common in preemies.  Send some good vibes that those cute eyes are a ok!  We also got to help give Ella a bath last night in a tub!  I will post pictures soon.  She has the cutest little bum and really loved the bath. She was all mellow and floated all mellow in the water under a heat lamp while the nurse showed us how to bath her.

meegs so exciting about the ultrasound

janet good luck at the u/s

brit I can not belive that it is aug already and your first try is coming up!  time flies!

  • We are just waiting, waiting, waiting for our second ultrasound. I think this has been one of the worst waits so far. I would feel so much better if the "one or two?" question had been answered at the last ultrasound. I don't know why I feel so unsettled about it. (Well, I guess it is kind of a big deal, having to hang out for 2 weeks not knowing how many kids you're pregnant with...)

I am half-tempted to call the RE's office and try to get more information about what they actually saw on the last u/s (like how big each sac was, really what they think the chances are of the smaller one being viable, etc.). I've tried to not annoy them too much, but maybe it's worth it for my peace of mind.

Three cheers for all the great updates and YAY ELLA!!

  • wow so much going on. What a baby boom.

    YEAH for 3 lbs!

We're meeting with an RE next Thurs to plan the course. We're thinking sometime between Feb and April we'll do our first round.

  • Hi ladies:)

I have been quietly following this board for awhile...now I need some help!

My wife and I are all ready to do our first insemination @ home on Friday (YAY).  But the sperm bank just called to double check to make sure that we wanted washed sperm...they don't have unwashed for the donor that we want.  And my wife is 100% italian so we want the donor to be 100% italian too so the baby will look like both of us...so I am not sure we can find someone else (esp. not in 2 days).

I am reading different things...does anyone have any experience with this?  Do you think it's still worth a shot? Help!

     -Kate

  • Welcome and congrats on your first try!  DW and I are doing insems at home and used washed sperm from a bank.  They only provide washed at our bank and then it can be used for either at home (ICI) or IUI.
  • I just emailed a midwife to see if she does inseminations!  Woo- hoo!  First contact :)
  • We had our first appointment with our RE on 7/23 and plan to start cycling again with my next period which is due in about 2 weeks. The plan this time around is Clomid 150mg days 5-9 with an HSG on day 8. We are also going to add in the trigger shot and do just 1 IUI. I'm feeling much more hopeful that we are finally moving forward and really feel it was the right decision to switch from my OB/GYN to the RE. We are planning 2 cycles with this protocol and if both fail then we will move on to injectables. We are moving from D/FW to Atlanta in about 6 months and are really hoping to at least be pregnant by then.

  • i'm late, but things are going well with us. she's getting bigger, although she doesn't really look as far along as she is--but the ob said she's measuring perfectly and she's got another 1.5-2 inches for her uterus to go up and then she'll pop, she's just tall so she's carrying in her height. the ob guessed she'll really start showing by 28 weeks.

we've moved some things around and started getting things ready for the nursery. we've set up a bit of a baby-stuff shrine on a shelving unit in there with the gifts we've gotten and such.

i think i've also convinced her that it's finally time to start thinking about the registry!

    hi kate!

from what i've read--and i'm no expert!--washed is fine for both IUI (which requires a speculum and catheter and some training from your practitioner to do at home) and ICI (what most people do at home). unwashed can only be used for ICI. washed just means that the seminal fluid has been removed, which is important for IUI because it bypasses the cervix, which acts as a natural filter for the fluid, and deposits the sperm directly into the uterus. if unwashed is used for an IUI it can cause major problems, like severe cramping and possibly introducing bacteria into your uterus that can cause infections.

  • Thanks.  I feel much better and we are def. getting the washed cuz we really want that donor and that's all there is.  The only con seems to be that some say the sperm don't live as long once inside, but we're doing all the OPK testing so we know when our "window" is.  I am SO excited!  Send some positive baby making vibes to Brooklyn this weekend:)
