Furniture Shopping

We're looking at purchasing some new furniture very soon.  We'll be looking for a bedroom set, couch and maybe dining set.  For the bedroom and dining, I'm willing to spend a little more and get quality since those tend to stick around longer.  As for the couch, I have a feeling that will be replaced every 5-7 years or so... so it doesn't have to be super high quality or anything.  If anyone has recommendations for places to shop in Indy or particularly good or bad stories/sales to share, I welcome them!

Re: Furniture Shopping

  • I have not bought furniture from either of these stores--but have had friends say very good things about Kittles and actually Ashley Home store. I honestly don't know how fancy Kittles is, but I know Ashley is kind of the starter furniture place for "grown-up" furniture. Not futons, but not going to break the bank.

Have fun looking--one of the items on our home to do list is bedroom furniture, and I am really excited to look too!!

  • I live Ashley's stuff.  The Room Place seems to have similar things, so you might want to price match.

I just saw an Ashley ad where they have a ton of "coupons" available, but you have to pick up the coupon sheet at the store.

  • We've had good experiances with the Kittles Outlet (up off of 96th & 69) and Kittles in general. I have a friend who swears by Value City and has a beautiful bedroom set and a really nice sturdy table and chairs... Kittles on the northside is having a big mother nature sample sale...
  • What about Godby?  Has anyone bought anything from them?
  • I love my Bassett couches, but they weren't cheap.  I also have Ashley that has held together well.  Remember to negotiate especially if you are buying a lot of furniture from one place.

Value City is a good place to look for inexpensive furniture.

  • I really liked Scandinavian Imports in Bloomington. They had some really cool, different stuff in terms of sofas. We got one there. Not for everyone though, my mom says our sofa is ugly.

I also like Arhaus and Merridian in Louisville. I know they are not in Indy, but we thought it was worth the drive, especially for Merridian. They have a lot of unique pieces and refinished pieces. We got an awesome antique coffee table there for under $200. (It is huge, 4' x 4', so we had trouble finding one made of real wood in our budget.) Depending on your taste, it is worth a look. http://www.merridian.com/index.html

    Good luck!
