Hubby update
so the entire morning yesterday was spent waiting for him to come out of the room. We ended up going ziplining, which he loved, but afterwards he got upset again. Once we met up with his friends and everyone started calling him for his birthday, I started hearing him tell people that I got him the best gift and he was able to see his father alive for the first time in his life.
Later on, he told me that he didn't realize how stressed out he had been after his mom's near death illness and then recovery after transplant plus remodeling the house. I guess between seeing something like that and also not really having an outlet for his stress, the floodgates opened.
Thanks ladies for your posts - you really made me feel so much better.

Sounds like a happy ending to me! Your gift was very thoughtful and after the initial shock, it sounds like he was really able to appreciate it. You gave him an experience he never thought he'd have and it was overwhelming. But being able to see his dad walking and talking for the first time - you totally won the best gift ever award.
