I used to go to Kaiser but I have new insurance so I need a new dentist. I need my wisdom teeth out and also I think I have a couple cavities. I'm a big, fat baby when it comes to dentists so I need someone patient and understanding of my dental fears. Also, someone good at giving shots and preventing pain would be fabulous! I prefer to stay on the east side, but honestly, I'd drive anywhere for a great dentist.
I've seen recommendations here before for Dr. Rafia in the Pearl, but my mom used to work with him when he was at Kaiser and wouldn't go there if someone paid her.
Thanks for any recommendations!

Re: Recommend your dentist!
For your wisdom teeth, hands down Jay P. Malmquist! Located by the Oregon Zoo: http://www.drjaypmalmquist.com/
I was terrified to get my teeth out. TERRIFIED. A friend of mine at work told me about him because her father is a dentist and highly recommends Dr. Malmquist. It was a great experience 100%. If I had to get my wisdom teeth extracted again, you bet I'd go here. Also, they only do IV sedation for these types of extractions.
For regular dental needs:
I see Kenneth Claggett at Beaverbrooke Dental in Sandy, Oregon. My DH & MIL/FIL have been seeing him for 20+ years. I started seeing them 6 years ago. In my opinion, it's totally worth the drive. http://beaverbrookedental.com/
If Sandy is too far, a LOT of people I work with see Dr. Parks at Bridgeview Dental. The girls here love him because he's good looking, and a great dentist as well. http://bridgeviewsmiles.com/meetthedoctors.html
Hope this helps!
Interesting?? What was your mom's experience with him? My husband and I both love him and we have several friends who are also his clients and love him. I find the entire staff to be incredibly friendly, they do great work and I've had nothing but fantastic, professional experiences with the office. I'm curious as to why your mom dislikes him so much?
My dentist is Elisabeth Kierkegaarde at Barbur Blvd and her husband Mark Wilson is great as well.
When I had to have my wisdom teeth pulled they referred me to a place on B-H Hwy near SW Murray. I don't remember the name but can look it up. With general anesthesia it was a piece of cake.
I used to be terrified of dentists but no more.

Dr. Brad King. He's on SE 107th and Holgate. I have been going there for years.
Funny story. I had been going there since 1999. When my DH and I met in 2001, I found out his mom is the assistant there. Small world!

According to my mom, he made various less than professional comments to many of the women in the office - to the point that a sexual harrassment claim was opened against him. He also was always very rushed and made some rather large mistakes. Extracting the wrong tooth, starting treatment before the patient was fully numbed, ignoring simple infections, etc.
This was, of course, many years ago. Perhaps he learned his lesson with the way he treats his staff. Maybe since he owns his own practice now, he is a lot better at preventing mistakes.
Oh, very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
My husband had his wisdom teeth taken out by Dr Steven Beadnell, near Barns and Hwy 26. It went really well and the staff was wonderful. We'll be going back if we ever need anything else done. (knock on wood we won't!)
We're babies about the dentist, too A friend, Dr Aaron Tinkle, just bought his own practice (Belmont Family Dentistry), and we'll be switching to him. It's on Belmont in SE.He is a really great guy, very friendly, funny, and understanding. He has been practicing for a couple of years and is an adjunct professor at OHSU's school of dentistry. I used to go to Dr Eric Anderson at OHSU and my husband went to Dr Craig Benben in NW. We love them both and are only switching to support our friend.
