Camcorder Recomendations

With lil' bit almost here, I really want to get a video camera. No, not to record her birth, but just to record all those precious "look she smiled" "aw, she rolled over" moments that are so fleeting and fast. I have a friend who has a flip and she highly recommends it. I don't need anything too fancy or expensive, and I like the small size of the flip, but thought I would see what you other girls out there have and if there is one that is really great. Thanks!

  • Hey Kim! I have a Canon ZR950 Mini DV and have really enjoyed it so far. You have to buy a special cord to get the video off the camera and onto your computer though.

  • I have a Flip and love it.  It is easy and loads to your computer easily.  It comes with its own software, but you don't have to use it.  I just load the video and edit it in Movie Maker.  I read some reviews of the other small camcorders that would be equivalent to the Flip from other manufacturers, but they at that time at least said that the software got in the way.

The Flip can be bought as a HD or regular.  The reviews I read said that the HD needs a steady hand or tripod, as does any HD.  I got the regular one so I wouldn't have to worry so much and I think its quality is good.  They also have a little tripod you can buy for it.  The main thing I like is that the Flip is small enough to slip in your purse and have at all times, so you are more likely to have it available and its ease of use means you can quickly start shooting, since babies aren't good at waiting for you to get set up when doing something cute.

Mine takes 1 hour of video, and they have them now that can shoot 2 hours.
