Ohio nestie visiting Milwaukee
Hello all, my husband and I will be visiting the Milwaukee area for a few days at the beginning of October and I was wondering if anyone here might have suggestions on places to visit?
We will get there late on a Wednesday afternoon and will be leaving first thing Saturday morning, so we have Thursday and Friday to really explore and find things to do.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
Re: Ohio nestie visiting Milwaukee
The Art Museum is really good. Other museums: Eisner Museum of Advertising and Design, Milwaukee Public Museum, Pabst Mansion.
Just north of the art museum is a series of lakefront parks. I recommend taking some time to go on a walk. I know that they have paddle boat rentals and bicycle rentals during the summer, but I'm not sure if that will be open in October. It should be pretty with the leaves changing.
Lakefront Brewery has great tours. On Fridays, they have an environmental tour. Or you can go to their fish fry (complete with polka band) and do the tour. Just get there a bit early, as it's quite popular. Other breweries to tour are Sprecher and Miller. I don't know what Sprecher is like, but I know the Miller one is a pretty standard corporate-feeling tour. You can also tour the Great Lakes Distillery, which makes vodka and gin.
The Historic Third Ward (southeast portion of downtown) has a bunch of cute shops and boutiques that are fun to browse in.
I can also point you to some good drink specials. Milwaukee Ale House has $2.50 20-ounce pints of their craft beers every weekday from 4pm-7pm. Byron's Beer Garden has $1.50 old fashioneds every weekday from 4pm-5pm. (Order it with brandy to be like the Wisconsinites.) Charro has $1 frozen margaritas all evening on Thursdays. Hotel Metro has great $5 martinis on Friday afternoons.
