Searching for a house......

Hello there again!

I posted a question about where to live in Norfolk a while back.(and thank you so very much for all of your responses!)

Well, my husband and I have officially moved to Chesapeake, VA and are looking for a new home. We really like parts of Chesapeake and Suffolk.

I would love any advice on what areas to stay away from, what school systems are great, etc.

We are happy to be here, although I do miss my home of alabama very much! Hopefully we can find a home that feels like "home"!

Thank you much! :)

Re: Searching for a house......

  • Ok, not familiar with the school districts in Suffolk (but I agree about the pretty locale). Chesapeake's best school districts are: Great Bridge, Hickory, not sure what the ratings are on Grassfield which is really new.  Oscar Smith is eh. Deep Creek's not too bad, Indian River I wouldn't recommend too much and Western Branch has gone way south lately - at least that's what I've heard.  You will also notice home prices in each school district reflected on their desirability.  IE, Great Bridge, Hickory $$$$, Western Branch $?

    Welcome to Virginia!!

  • Hi! I am a local Realtor in the area, I would love to help you find a home in Chesapeake or Suffolk. Check out my Nest Blog Hampton Roads Real Estate and feel free to email me or call with any real estate questions you have.

What I can do for you is set you up on an email notification link so you can see what is available and you can become an expert in Chesapeake and Suffolk real estate!

  • Hello welcome to the area. I am more familiar with Suffolk because my husband is a teacher there and I work in Suffolk. If you have any kids what ages are they and I can recommend what schools would be better.
  • we just moved to Suffolk (from Virginia Beach) and LOVE it.  We're near Obici Hospital, so we're only about five minutes away from downtown Suffolk, and about 15 minutes away from Harbourview (movies, etc).  it's a great, family-oriented area.
  • Lurker here, thought I'd chime in. We just moved to Portsmouth last year and really like it, despite what you might hear about the area. We're near Deep Creek in Chesapeake and not far from Churchland and Western Branch and we love the area. You'll also find a lot of good prices around here right now.
